How has Moustakas (sp?) been doing? I took a quick glance at his stats and it appears he is hitting at an Alex Gordon-like level.

Yesterday morning his stats looked great, but he got blanked 0 for 3. The data is still thin, so who knows.

Data is thin on all of the young guys.

I'm just hoping a few of them have killer springs and force themselves onto the opening day roster. The days of sending people down because of arbitration/free agency BS should be over. I see no point in Moose, Hosmer and Cain learning how to hit Triple A retreads if they prove they're ready this spring. They can figure out how to hit at the Major League level if they're given the patience that Gordon/Teahen/Maier (this list could be a mile long with the amount of crap talent we've displayed the past 15+ years) were awarded. That being said, I'm much more interested in seeing how these young guys are hitting in mid-March when teams start stretching out the pitchers likely to make the opening day roster.

I read an article the other day (KCStar?) where Yost was talking about having to give Francoer and Melky a 2-3 month chance to prove themselves because we promised that to them when they signed. That's absolute BS. This is a business, and if they suck all spring and continue to suck in April, then they should be cut.

You would think ownership would understand that people will come out to the ballpark all year long to watch the young kids lose. They won't come out to watch baseball vagabonds make asses of themselves on the field.

If it turns out that Cain is clearly the best CF and we send him to Omaha so that we don't hurt someone's feelings, then I will buy fewer tickets than I otherwise would have until the best players are regularly on the field.

We don't know that yet, and Cain still has to prove he's the best center fielder with a credible bat, but our best center fielder should not be in Omaha.

I agree that he has to prove himself first.

I just can't imagine that there is even one true Royals fan out there who really wants to see us trot out Melky and Frenchy on a daily basis.

I think its pretty clear that Hosmer at least will start in AAA, as will most of the young arms. I think Moose, and Cain have outside shots at making the big league club. I agree that we should have the best players in KC when they're ready, but can't rush these guys either. If they are the best option only because the rest of the team is crap, then that's not a good reason to me. We want them to stay with the team once they make it up.

Haha, yep I don't think anyone wants that, but if it buys our youngins more time until they're ready then I'm all for it. I guess.

Did you mean NW Arkansas (AA)? That's where pretty much everyone outside of Moose and Cain project to be for the 1st half of this year

Bowser 03-03-2011 11:42 AM

Caught the game on the radio at work yesterday. It was really nice listening to Denny, Ryan, and Steve call a game again. (On top of listening to the future stars, it's also a sign that warmer weather is on the way)

I worded that poorly. As far as the pitchers I just meant the minors in general, and for Hosmer I couldve swore I heard AAA was likely for him. Could be mistaken, but either way he won't be in KC to start.

My prediction: Cain, Moose, Duffy, Robinson start at AAA.

Hosmer, Colon, Monty, lamb, Dwyer, Myers, Crow, Perez start at AA.

DeezNutz 03-03-2011 12:32 PM

Most reports I have heard from Spring Training (810) indicate that Hosmer will start at AAA, and he might be a mid-season call up.

alnorth 03-03-2011 09:04 PM

Yeah, I'll be surprised if Hosmer ever has another AA at-bat
