There's the matter of track record to consider when positioning Hill in the market. Cueto had five years of staff ace brilliance on resume, where he had performed like a top 5-10 starter in baseball. Hill has only pitched at this level for 2/3 of a season, if you count the second half last year (and even then, he wasn't THIS good). He's less of a proven commodity. As such, I'd guess that his trade package would look more like what the A's got for Scott Kazmir than what the Reds got for Cueto. And that wasn't a tremendous price - a couple of prospects outside the top 100 on all lists. I also still don't think the package surrendered for Cueto was much, BTW. Finnegan and Lamb are bullpen pieces at best at this point. Reed is the guy from that trade who I think ends up being a major leaguer you actually miss in a few years. He's the only one who might make an ASG or something like that. And that package is still much more than what Oakland got for Kazmir. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Gotta say. I LOVE being on this end of the year market. It's a lot more fun.

So in the 9th inning tonight Whit Merrifield led off with a double down the third base line. He absolutely busted his ass out of the batter's box, he sprinted like a madman after rounding first base, and he rounded second base with every intention of going for three until he saw the stop sign and put on the brakes.
It reminded me sadly of the 9th inning of game 7 of the 2014 World Series. You guys know the play I'm talking about. For one brief moment I wished Hootie were still here so I could troll him one more time about Alex Gordon's lack of hustle on the most important play of his career (up to that time, anyway). And Hootie could hysterically insist one more time that NOBODY in the entire history of baseball would have hustled on that play. NOBODY! I've obviously forgiven Alex for that faux pas. His home run off Familia last year had a lot to do with that. Plus, coming so tantalizingly close in 2014 made 2015 the epic year that it was. I even logged on to Royalsplanet to see if I could troll Hootie over there, but that place is a graveyard. |
I'm still in awe of Paulo Orlando hitting over .400 so far this season. Sure, I know he's not an everyday player, but damn if he isn't making the most of his opportunities.

You think they're gonna get this game in today? Looks like there's a lot of rain in the forecast in Minneapolis.
