Zobrist is swinging at only 33.9% of pitches this year. That is the 9th lowest rate in the past 14 years (2,294 player seasons).

There's the matter of track record to consider when positioning Hill in the market.

Cueto had five years of staff ace brilliance on resume, where he had performed like a top 5-10 starter in baseball.

Hill has only pitched at this level for 2/3 of a season, if you count the second half last year (and even then, he wasn't THIS good). He's less of a proven commodity.

As such, I'd guess that his trade package would look more like what the A's got for Scott Kazmir than what the Reds got for Cueto.

And that wasn't a tremendous price - a couple of prospects outside the top 100 on all lists.

I also still don't think the package surrendered for Cueto was much, BTW. Finnegan and Lamb are bullpen pieces at best at this point. Reed is the guy from that trade who I think ends up being a major leaguer you actually miss in a few years. He's the only one who might make an ASG or something like that.

And that package is still much more than what Oakland got for Kazmir.

Gotta say. I LOVE being on this end of the year market. It's a lot more fun.

Lex Luthor 05-24-2016 09:22 PM

So in the 9th inning tonight Whit Merrifield led off with a double down the third base line. He absolutely busted his ass out of the batter's box, he sprinted like a madman after rounding first base, and he rounded second base with every intention of going for three until he saw the stop sign and put on the brakes.

It reminded me sadly of the 9th inning of game 7 of the 2014 World Series. You guys know the play I'm talking about. For one brief moment I wished Hootie were still here so I could troll him one more time about Alex Gordon's lack of hustle on the most important play of his career (up to that time, anyway). And Hootie could hysterically insist one more time that NOBODY in the entire history of baseball would have hustled on that play. NOBODY!

I've obviously forgiven Alex for that faux pas. His home run off Familia last year had a lot to do with that. Plus, coming so tantalizingly close in 2014 made 2015 the epic year that it was.

I even logged on to Royalsplanet to see if I could troll Hootie over there, but that place is a graveyard.

I'm still in awe of Paulo Orlando hitting over .400 so far this season. Sure, I know he's not an everyday player, but damn if he isn't making the most of his opportunities.

Yes it's fun to go read Hootie go totally Colonel Kurtz on himself over there. And I say that with a smile. I enjoy Hootie's sports takes. But it's funny to read his claims that Mods over here are going to pay him to post here again and other tangents.

He may not be an everyday player, but he's never gotten the chance to prove it either. He was always very raw considering he was into track and not baseball. He's got power and speed and can play defense. I don't expect him to be an All Star but he might be a guy who can play quite a bit and be productive. Every time he gets a chance he seems to get better.

Soooooo you're saying pull the trigger on dropping Gordo for him in phantasy?

You think they're gonna get this game in today? Looks like there's a lot of rain in the forecast in Minneapolis.

The curse of the Balboni strikes again. Moose could've hit 40 this year.

Looking the radar now and there's a line of storms just about finished with Minneapolis and nothing behind it. So yes, it may be delayed slightly at the start, but they should get it in.
