what a concept, I will never blame fans for not showing up if the product on the field does not warrant parking and ticket prices.
This city seems pumped for the Royals right now though.

Well its also buck night and the celebrity game with hometown heroes Sudeikis/Rudd/Riggle/Stonestreet. With a matchup of 2 aces, directly after the longest winning streak in 10 years ending with a beatdown of your division rival.

This is not exactly a random Tuesday night game in April.

BWillie 06-20-2014 04:21 PM

Im really amazed it sold out quite honestly. In 2003 the team was in first as late as the end of July and they weren't selling out all Friday games I don't think.

I can't stand having Infante in the 2 hole. I'd switch him and Cain, and then Gordon/Hosmer.

1-RF Dyson
2-CF Cain
3-LF Gordon
4-DH Butler
5-1B Hosmer
6-C Perez
7-2B Infante
8-3B Moustakas
9-SS Escobar

Did they have the Fireworks Fridays back then? Those Fireworks are a pretty decent draw even if the team is bad.

This is why if we end up getting into the wild card game I would not want james shields pitching. I know he is our ace and can go a lot of innings but he always seems to dig holes in the early innings and then levels off through the later innings. If we only have one game I think we have better chances with someone else. He especially does not seem to pitch well against Detroit or the AL Central.

Great Expectations 06-20-2014 09:49 PM

What us wrong with big game James? He has been off for a while.

C3HIEF3S 06-20-2014 09:52 PM

Yep, Shields is the issue that should be discussed. For his first couple of outings I was thinking he would just correct himself.. doesn't look that way.

Prison Bitch 06-20-2014 09:53 PM

He went in 8-3 with a 3.50 era. What do people want?

Mechanics, mechanics, and more mechanics. That's his #1 issue. It's not that his mechanics are bad, it's that they're inconsistent. If his shoulder rushes forward too fast, he has a tendency to leave the ball up. The changeup moves from side to side, rather than fading action down. You'll know when he's doing it if he's missing up in the zone.

It's the #1 reason for the big innings he gives up.

To not put us in deficits like the one today consistently.

I don't disagree to the fact that last season was way over Shields' career numbers. However, as a #1 he should be expected to give the Royals a chance and not force the offense to play catch up.

To start the game as if his mind is really into it, would be refreshing, to not start out in a deficit right off the bat? would be nice.

His numbers have been the same here as his career numbers, a 1/2 starter. But yes to your point he didn't get it done tonight. Of course neither did Holland

tk13 06-20-2014 10:35 PM

Shields has not been as sharp lately. It's amazing how far this team has come though. Two seasons ago Bruce Chen was this team's opening day starter. Now we're worried about a guy with a 3.70 ERA.

We've gotten spoiled, but that comes with expectations. Going into the season, I was hoping for Shields go give us between a 3.00 and 3.50 ERA. He's in the area, but he needs to get better. Even so, he's miles better than what we had years ago. Hell, our whole rotation is miles better.

Prison Bitch 06-20-2014 10:57 PM

Shields is a good player. Our team era is still fantastic. We lose games because our power spots at 1B, DH, and RF can't hit the ball with any power

Dyson should be playing more, Aoki def has been a disappointment

His #'s keep falling year after year.

2012 he hit 38 doubles and had 10 HR's

last year 20 doubles and 8 HR's...

the OBP was .356 and .355 atleast those 2 years. Everything down 20-30 points more

Fair enough, man. Moose should be in AAA, and Hosmer needs to quit trying to pull every goddamn pitch into the seats.

I just assume professional athletes are arrogant until proven otherwise. But it's certainly harder to tolerate when they are underperforming.

Did some quick math on the Royals ticket site, I estimate that there are roughly 14,000 tickets available. If that is true, then they have probably sold about 24,000, so they should get over 25,000 easily, but maybe not 30k unless there is a huge walkup.

edit: There are roughly 15,000 tickets available for Sunday, so about 23,000 sold for that.

edit2: For sunday's "bark at the park" promotion, the 6 sections that were reserved for dogs and their owners are all sold out. So for that game if its not full of people, we're at least going to be at the maximum allowable capacity for dogs.

Where you live (just up the road from me) if the Royals are winning we will see a lot of Cardinal fans suddenly become Royals fans. Granted their is a lot of die hard, many generations Cardinal fans no doubting that for one second, but there is a lot of bandwagon jumpers as well.

The Cards aren't in 1st and the Royals are (or were as of yesterday's paper.)

I haven't watched the Royals since Bo but if they can somehow manage to stay competitive and make Cards fans sweat I'll ****ing love it...

We are surrounded by Card fans here of course they have a longer history & have been winning too. KRCG is definitely biased in their coverage.

I've seen more Royals shirts this month than I have the last 20 years.

I really think Dayton is at his wits end with these two. I give him a lot of credit for building a stout pitching staff but they're killing his team. Vargas busted his ass in 90 degree humidity today and took a completely undeserved loss. He needs to give Erica a severe code red in the locker room.

"Severe code red" = surprise butt sex?

I think you might be on to something here. I won't say yes but I won't say no to your suggestion on what must be done.
