It's why most people don't care about movie reviews anymore. People feel disconnected with critics, and I suppose it is because critics care too much about the area in which they write criticism. It's more than entertainment to critics.

Louie is a perfect example. It doesn't get great ratings. People wish it was funnier, that it was more comedy-driven. But many critics think it's a top 3 show on TV.

They aren't trying to be contrarian. Their tastes no longer match the general public. Both approaches towards tv or film or etc. are totally valid, even if people from one approach hate people who take the other approach.

I liked "Fly". I didn't think it was especially great compared to the other episodes in the season, but I enjoyed it all the same. I wish Louie was more comedy driven this season, but only because he's so damn capable at making me laugh. Yet I still appreciate the drama he's bringing to the show now (don't know if I'd call it drama, but you know what I mean). Plus it's still funny at times.

I've seen discussion on other forums about the differences between invested viewers and relaxation viewers. The lament is that some TV programming has become so good that it's no longer a veg-out pastime. So there's still a sizable contingent of the viewing public who opt for the familiarity of L&O and CSI, or watch the 'good' shows for the explosions or slapstick.

LOL

They hate me in Kansas City...

BigMeatballDave 08-02-2012 09:31 PM

Kansas City is the worst city is North America, and that includes Mexico and Canada.

LOL

Yeah, WTF Louie? I used to think he just had to pick a random city, and KC was the unlucky choice, but he was pretty specific... "Stanford and Sons"

Not the first time Louie has blasted KC:

But hey, he thinks the people that live there are nice, so that's a good thing...I guess.

He must have had a really bad experience in KC or something.

You have to watch his bit about getting high in Kansas City. It's hilarious. Also, he said in a Reddit Q&A thingy that he likes Kansas City, but "loves shitting on it on live TV for some reason."

"So I'm driving on this highway in Missouri, and I suddenly realize... I think it's been about 20 minutes since I looked out the front window of this car."

Oh I remember that lol. Yeah he's been doing standup for a long ass time. Surely he had some kind of bad experience here. To be honest though, a lot of parts of KC are a shithole. Some of the suburbs are really nice though. Considering I've been living in Tulsa...Overland Park area is a hell of a lot nicer.

Daddy's Girlfriend 1 & 2 were really amazing. Parker Posey played a perfect crazy lady. And Louie played it up perfectly in that he knew she was crazy, but was having so much fun he couldn't really fault her for being crazy. I just really enjoyed the whole dynamic they had going there.

I wonder if she'll ever even be mentioned again? I doubt it. The show doesn't seem to have much continuity at all. Which is cool with me.

I agree. I love it, but I understand why some hate it. If I walk west to the first intersection I see on my street at the wrong time of day, it's Rape City. And, you know, the MLB, ESPN, everyone involved in the All-Star Game, and Google have been sucking our city's collective cock through the month of July, so it feels good to get made fun of for a change.

Yeah it is almost uncomfortable to watch. I liked last season but this season is strange. The best part of the show is the 1-2 minutes of stand-up at the beginning.

That was always the best part of the show
