You are in Waterloo, it is one of the few towns in Iowa in which you can actually locate some brown people if you try.

As to the weather, at least Iowa has weather. It is 101 frigging degrees here today, 101 on October 8. That is insane. Everything is brown here, the plants the kirt the houses the sky the strip malls EVERYTHING.
The weather NEVER changes. One frigging sunny/smoggy day after the next with no variety ever.

Don't think of the weather as unpredictable, think of it as 'diverse'.

And you can drive 2.5 hours and be at the beach in Rocky Point, Mexico. 2 hours for skiiing in a month or so. 4 hours from Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
