Good arm, but he doesn't yet have the mental understanding of the game to be an NFL QB.

He was a RS Sophomore. I expect his understanding will continue to improve. He has excellent physical tools.

I expect him to improve too. To the point where he could be a 1st round QB after next season? That I have significant doubts about.

People shut up about EJ Manuel. Have you all ever seen him play? He's ****ing AWFUL.

Chris Rix & Adrian McPhearson are better than EJ Manuel. JFC.

No, a nightmare is a Cassel extension.

If by nightmare you mean the best possible thing then yes

With only 1 above average draft in 4 years as a GM here, I've decided I just don't care.

Why bother following the draft? Pioli's just gonna waste everyone's time anyway.

After drafting DT Jerome Long yesterday we should draft this guy. And that would be the long and short of it.

Reaper do you even watch football?

McCarron is not another Greg McElroy. McCarron has the size and physical tools the NFL looks in a potential first tier QB. He was a top 150 recruit coming out of high school and is running a pro style offense. All Saban QBs look like game managers but he shows flashes of greatness. The only question is if he comes out this year, which I doubt.

It's a process.

I watch a shit ton of football. Specifically, I see all of the Alabama home games in-person.

All I said is that McCarron needs to continue to learn how to actually play quarterback. He was all tools, no understanding for much of last season. Watching his games will back that up. He played below average for more than half of the season, and that's with a zillion defenders in the box attempting to shut down Richardson and Lacy.

Lots of QBs with NFL tools get taken in the 2nd-4th rounds. They do so because their tape sucks.

What's encouraging is that he was trending upward. His best games last season were his last two: at Auburn and vs LSU in the BCS title game.

The apathy seems to be hanging thick; at least it is with me. This is the first time in years that I haven't watched the draft in its entirety.

Just have to laugh off some of the selections and move on.

I think you are a little harsh on McCarron. Think about this: he only gets to throw when that running game isn't rolling like clockwork and he hardly ever gets to develop a rhythm. Just my take, but those are two bad circumstances under which to be expected to perform against SEC competition.

Maybe. But that post of yours sounds like arguments in favor of Matt Cassel during the 2010 season.
