Darrelle Revis ‏@Revis24
I'm speechless by far but more importantly I feel more upset for the jet nation for having to go through this!!!

Makes perfect sense for the Jets to trade him. They need a major rebuild. They are by no means "a piece or two" away from being competitive.

They also have serious salary cap woes. Trading Revis would probably afford salary cap relief and get them some decent draft pick(s) to make headway on rebuilding. Revis is a phenomenal talent, but you don't rebuild around a CB.

What?

Flowers is, AT THE VERY LEAST, a top 10 CB on anyone's list. How is that not exceptional?

As far as his talent - definitely not.

His performance should have been recognized as top 10...

'Gold rush forming' for possible Darrelle Revis trade
By Mike Freeman | National NFL Insider
January 25, 2013 11:09 am ET

One NFL general manager called the trade interest in Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis “one of the biggest potential trade markets for a player ever.” He likened the growing interest in Revis to when Reggie White was leaving Philadelphia as a free agent or the Peyton Manning sweepstakes last year. That, basically, says it all about what's happening with Revis.

The possibility of a Revis trade, first reported by CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, is no longer just a possibility, according to a variety of sources. The Jets are strongly leaning toward the trade and teams are considering giving up significant capital to get him.

"There's a Revis gold rush forming,” said a general manager.

The teams highly interested in Revis are looking at teams like the Seahawks and the two Super Bowl participants and how despite this being an offense-driven league now, defenses still can dramatically and quickly change a team's fortune.

Several team sources are claiming the Jets want a first- and second-round pick for Revis, which is astronomical payment considering Revis -- while one of the best players in all of football -- is coming off knee surgery and will want a hefty contract.

The Jets won't get a one and two (no way), but teams think the Jets can get a nice gaggle of picks and a player.

Sources say one of the teams highly interested is the New England Patriots, but not even the Jets, who have made some screwy decisions over the years, would trade Revis to the division-rival Patriots and, in the process, hand them a Super Bowl.

Other teams highly interested, I'm told, are Denver, San Francisco, Buffalo (not happening -- division rival), and even Seattle, which already has some of the best defensive backs in the game. One team also constantly mentioned by league sources is Green Bay, though the Packers, possessors of one of the best front offices in all of sports, usually don't give up high-round picks.

So the race to get Revis is on.

Who will win?
I have a bad feeling that Denver is going to wind up with him in an effort to get Manning a SB before he goes...

Problem is, it makes little sense for anyone else to trade for him. IIRC, he has a player option the year after next, and he WILL opt out and get paid bigtime in free agency.

I think that people really underestimate what Revis could do for the Chiefs. He was pretty much the reason the Jets became a perennial playoff contender (and his injury was also the reason they were the dumpster fire they were this year).

He can literally shut down his side of the field. I mean, think about every single play you pretty much don't have to worry about them completing a pass to the guy Revis is covering.

I get it, it would probably take a LOT to get him, but Revis is a once in a decade player. He's that good. IMO, he's nearly as valuable as a franchise QB.

He's coming off a major knee injury, creeping closer to 30 and it will likely need at least a 1st rounder plus some to pry him away.....and then once you pry him away, you'll need to be prepared to make him one of the highest paid players in the league...if not THE highest paid player in the league.

That's a lot to pay for a player who may not be the same after the ACL and is just a year or two away from inevitable decline.

If your Chiefs this has Ty Law written all over it. Even with a screw in his foot he is better than half the CBs thay said.

Pasta Little Brioni 01-25-2013 04:50 PM

Denver will give up their entire draft for him and a decade's supply of Papa Peyton's.

Bump 01-25-2013 04:52 PM

I'd do a 3rd rounder for sure. But we aren't really in a position to go out and trade for a top CB right now. That's what teams that are ready to compete in the playoffs do.

But he is, by far, the best CB in the NFL when he's healthy.

Nah I don't buy that. There is no 3-4 rebuilding plan in the NFL anymore. The Colts just went from the worst team in the league to playoffs.

So take the "ready to compete for playoffs" factor out.

true dat

I'm sure the Jets would want a lot, too much for us.

Pasta Little Brioni 01-25-2013 05:09 PM

2nd and 5th. 3rd sure the **** won't do it. Somebody in the late first might give one up. They won't get a 1 plus 2 though.
