So many incredible performances , but one of my favorites is Royal Tennenbaum. Any other actor and that movie is probably too cute and quirky to work. He grounded the whole thing with his gruff, mischievous portrayal of Royal. Perfect example of why comedic acting should be taken as seriously as dramatic.

I didn't realize the last movie he did was welcome to mooseport which is hilarious.

Goddamn, I need to watch that movie asap. Probably only saw snippets of it over the years.

Gene Hackman was the only valid Lex Luthor IMO he was awesome

Maybe it's an age/timing thing but to me Superman is Christopher Reeve and Lex Luthor is Gene Hackman.

They tried to get him to come out of retirement to star in the movie Nebraska in the early 2010's but he wouldn't do it. Bruce Dern ended up getting an Oscar nomination for the role.

Apparently Wes Anderson tried for months to convince him to do the role and Hackman was reluctant to do so. Glad he eventually did because it wouldn't have worked without him.

Exactly what I think of when I think of Gene Hackman… “Because I finally want to meet my grandkids…” LMAO

Fun Fact: Before James Caan accepted the role for Misery they wanted Gene Hackman first but he didn't want to lay in bed for a whole movie so he turned it down.

Maybe too soon but if there was a movie about Hackman who plays him? John C Riley?

(nice homage the Supergirl people did, there)

I cannot think of one role he was in that he didn't hit a homerun or deliver the movie.

Did he have any stinkers? I can't think of a single bad role or movie.

The Firm
Get Shorty
Royal Tenenbaums
Heartbreakers
Replacements
Mississippi Burning
The Quick and the Dead
The French Connection
Young Frankenstein

Just a small sample of great performances. So many more......

Watching Unforgiven now.

Great movie, although it has always bothered me that Davey got lumped in with Quick Mike when he had nothing to do with slicing up the hooker, and actually tried to stop him. Had that been me, I would have loudly professed my innocence, but he never says a word. I don't get it.

Still, everything else about it is awesome.

I love that Hackman played tennis with Gene Wilder and asked him to talk to Mel Brooks about getting the hermit role in Young Frankenstein. He also ad libbed the espresso line.

Hackman was great, but so was Michael Rosenbaum in Smallville.

A reminder that Gene Hackman was the first choice to play Mike Brady in The Brady Bunch.
