That’s another factor in all of this that’s awesome. Not everyone can pull it off and make it fit. But our Chiefs just say hold my beer and turn it into great or at least productive results and contributors and you just can’t help but smile and love every bit of it. And after awhile you just recognize it where in the past you might be pissed or a bit confused on a pick

I really like this pick. Big Louisville homer, almost as big as my love for the Chiefs. Seen damn near every game he’s played at UofL. Can’t wait to see him next year playing for KC. Ashton pops off the tape every time I watch em. Certainly a guy you want.

Not really. Not as likely to fight/maul you.

Karlaftis wins in his second move and by being relentless. Gillotte is someone that's looking to set you up snap by snap (rather than within a snap) and beat you with a single move. He will challenge your outside shoulder a bit more and does the speed to power thing a bit better.

Can't think of a comp at the moment, but it ain't Karlaftis.

More athletic but less powerful Tamba Hali?

I have just now had the chance to watch the videos in the OP, and damn the kid has dip and power.

Pretty excited to see him play!

I kinda think maybe just 'better Danna' is the right answer. He's faster, he's more powerful, he's more productive. He's built similarly but again, just better. Danna isn't always out there chaining moves together.

Halis a hard comp because he wasn't really impressive in terms of traits but developed such a nice arsenal off pass rush moves.

If Gillotte were to do that he would be my previous comp - Mercillus.

Yeah, I can see the feeling of need over talent right now.

I was just saying to duncan that Azareye'h Thomas at 63, Jaylin Noel at 66, and Xavier Watts at 95 would sure feel like straight-up amazing values, but they pushed needs. I do really like Nohl Williams in the 3rd and I do really like Gilotte as a player. This is probably where we needed to take him, I don't think he'd have made it to even where we traded for Williams.

Just looking at the picks taken around the guys we got, I think Veach has a FANTASTIC feel for this draft.

If he thought he needed to move up to get Gillotte, I think we have to believe him. He sure seemed to have it nailed.

I think the kid will get stronger as the training staff works on him. Furious George is already one of his buddies. He should be able to help the kid learn, and Tamba Hali is always willing to come in and work with our rush guys to help them learn how to defeat a blocker. I like this pick a lot.

Watching more of this kid...I see really good instincts. He's FAST off the snap, has a plan. Sets the blocker up and makes his move. Not real bendy, but a nice dip. And he closes SO fast.

I think we've got ourselves a good one.

He reminds me a hair of Bolton once he commits. Very fast movement to the ball.

Higher ceiling version of Karlaftis. Similar size but much better lateral agility, first step and hand usage.

This kid was a potential first rd pick for this draft a year ago. ESPN’s Jordan Reid put a piece out on him.

He’s going to get playtime this year unless Felix finally turns it on and produces

I will expect to see him a lot if that's the case.

Haven’t seen anything on him until we drafted him. So I’m not claiming to have watched a bunch of film or anything.

But he does seem like a guy who can come in as a rookie and not be a hindrance. I think he’ll be able to set a nice edge. Even with his length limitations

RunKC 04-27-2025 07:57 PM

I cannot get this guy out of my head. I didn’t look close enough at him pre-draft bc I though his arms and hands would be too short but that’s not hurt him at all.

I think everybody else in this class minus Simmons can be a good impact player, but goddamn man. I really think this kid could be a blue chipper.

I can’t believe this guy fell to 66. His sack numbers were lower but he only had 1 feeer pressure than his breakout 2023 season. Maybe part of it was his arms and hands being smaller/shorter.

Either way I’m glad he fell bc I think this kid could be special.

Actually, some draft experts think he was picked a round earlier than anticipated. I don't care about these expertly opinions. Shit, Mike Dana didn't even have a draft profile and he turned into a really good player for us.
When drafting a defensive lineman, you always take into consideration important traits such as flexibility (where you line them up), pressures created, character/leadership, etc. He was highly productive in pressures created in back-to-back seasons and has the abbility to play inside which would help against the run.

He'll, most likely be Tamba's next pupil
