Have you played it? I agree it is more like a movie that you get to play. Though, I'm only up to the last scene in act 1

I held out and didnt buy it. First time for me. I always give in to the hype, but i held my ground /flex. Though when GoW 3 comes out, there's no way i can hold out, them games kick ass.

My biggest problem will be the PS3 controller if I start to get any games. I have always preferred the Xbox controller with the analog stick in the primary position.

kcxiv 06-19-2008 03:25 AM

I thought i was going to be the same way when i got my ps3, but in reality it didnt bother me at all. Once you get used of the half an ounce the damn thing weighs, then you will be fine. People say the controller craps your hand becuase its to close, i dunno, it doesnt bother me one bit. I tell ya what though, they have a cool ass bowling game from the PS store that i bought. I had alot of fun with it as you can use the controller to swing like a bowling ball. hah

Fine. This link will take you to a site that lists all the available discounts (there's even a couple better than the Walmart $200 gift card)

hmm.. same as on Xbox. I have seen some 4.99 up until about 14.99 for the PS1/ps2 games i believe.

Anyways, if anyone likes Tennis games Top Spin 3 comes out on the 24th i believe. I will be getting one for free courtesy of 2k sports. yay. I just dont knwo what version to get yet. I am going to wait to see if the ps3 or the 360 version is better.

007 06-19-2008 02:42 PM

Now I have to choose which system will dominate my LAN connection. I don't want to drop the coin on a second router or go through the hassle of running more LAN wire to the PS3. PS3 wireless is unimpressive.

Guess I will just have to run the cord back and forth depending on what sys I need it on.

007 06-19-2008 04:06 PM

New problem. I have HDMI and optical hooked up. The only way I can get any sound though is when the PS3 is set to HDMI and sound will go to the receiver through my optical cable. When I select Optical I lose my sound to my TV and receiver through the optical cable.

Also, when I settle for HDMI sound I can't get digital sound through my receiver only PCM.

What am I doing wrong?

007 06-19-2008 06:06 PM

Found the problem.

Oh and my screen name is lllGurulll

I have never had problems with the PS3 wireless. Works perfect for me in fact i watch what i downloaded through my PS3 all the time. I havent played online though becuase my stupid ass router doesnt let me open up the ps3 port for some reason.

Are you having NAT Type problems? If so, let me know and I can help you out here. Hopefully you have a Linksys router, because thats the one I know the best but I might be able to help you on the other ones.

This may sound stupid, but you have your laptop (and other wireless devices) turned off when trying to connect wireless-ly, right?

That shouldn't be an issue. Hell, our Wii runs perfectly fine wirelessly from further away with laptops and phones on.

my 360 ports open fine, but when i try to open up the ps3 one, it tells me server duplicate and doesnt go through. I have a Zyxel router. I absolutely love the router its as stable as anything i have ever used. Its just with this damned ps3. lol

Can I try it when you are done? JK

Don't think I will be willing to drop $60 on a tennis game. That one really should be a lower price. I think all the sports games should be $30 or less.

This is true. Especially tennis and hockey games. And I rented Hot Shots Golf because I thought it might be entertaining. It is, if you can handle the uber-queer Japanimation. The characters and so many aspects of the game are so unbelievably ghey, but I'm sure an 6-10 year old would enjoy it quite a bit.

I did rent Ratchet and Clank. I've only played one level, but it's a pretty fun, engaging game.

You are a pretty cheap bastard. All you ever talk about is how much $$$ things cost and how you don't want to spend it.

:)

Anyways, I would recommend Gamefly to you. It's only 15 bucks a month for the "one out at a time" plan and you have a large library of games to choose from. The great thing is, if you decide you really like the game, you can click "keep it" (not for all titles, like new releases and such) and they will charge you for the game, which is cheaper than buying in stores, and then send you a new case and manual for it.

It's a great way to try a bunch of games without buying them, at a modest cost. As long as you don't keep 1 game for 4 months you are ahead in saving $$$ over buying them.

Saulbadguy 06-20-2008 07:43 AM

Yeah, i wouldn't either. I don't mind buying sports games that i like. I have bought almost all of the 2k sports game, but now i have the ability to get most of them free. I am going that route. Only problem is i don't get them on release date, they send them to me about a week or so later.

There are very few games I would drop $60 on. I wait until they are at least under $40 in the used shops or at half.com

Is there a way to get the PS3 to download when the unit is not in use overnight? Like the ehem XBOX does.

turned the unit off overnight while downloading ratchet and clank. Woke up and it didn't download any further than it already was.

You have to leave the unit turned on (power on, little indicator light green/blue NOT red).

You can turn off your monitor, receiver, etc, though.

Buy a PSP and turn it off remotely with that. ;)

Or you could just leave it on and turn on Folding@Home to donate some spare CPU cycles.

Luv, go into the playstation store on the main menu of the PS3. In there you will find a bunch of games that are geared more towards that.

I would recommend one called Super Stardust HD. It costs about $10, but its fun. You can download the free demo first if you want to try it out.

Yeah, and everyday shooter and Pixeljunk Monsters and PAIN is pretty popular. sniff around enough and you'll find good ones all the way down to the basic stuff like Sudoku.

I've played video games since the Coleco Vision. Offbrand controllers have always sucked. I can't imagine wireless ones with sixaxis function being a good idea. JMO.

I am hesitant anyway because I use my Xbox for gaming. We have one game that could be multi and I hate to blow $40 on controller for one game.

I really don't like that Sony made the controller so that you have to replace the entire controller when the battery dies.

I'm betting it will take quite awhile to kill the battery. Years. I bet there is a way to replace them too.

I don't disagree. Probably will last years. Its just the point that nimh batteries don't last forever and it seems stupid to have to replace the entire controller if one were to fail.

M$ had it right with just using AAs. My energizer rechargeables have been gold since the beginning.

Trying to view from an external HDD. If I put all my music in one folder it can see everything. If I organize it by multiple folders within that folder the PS3 says the folder is empty and won't go deeper.

when you scroll over music, then scroll over your usb drive, hit triangle and select view all

That worked. Kind of dumb that you have to do that though.

that's meaningless unless we have comparable data on Xbox and the PS2.
I know the PS2 was originally sold under cost as well.

Firmware update 2.40 is up.

The in-game XMB is kick ass.

007 07-01-2008 10:10 PM

no bugs? I tend to wait do DL these things.

HolmeZz 07-01-2008 10:12 PM

Everything looks peachy.

Guess that means i gotta plug in my ps3 after about a month collecting dust. Dunno what i am going to play though. Oh well, i will mess with the firmware update.

Also, Guru, when they go live, you have to download them to even get to the PSN or play online i beleive. They are usually pretty bug free though. I havent had anything go bad or i dont recall them every having to do an immediate patch to fix something thats broken.

007 07-02-2008 01:33 AM

cool.

On a side note...

have God of War Chains of Olympus on the PSP. This game is insanely fun. What the hell is the point of the sex minigame though?
