Definitely. My wife is hooked more than I am. She has always struggled at golf, which is surprising, because she is quite athletic. She has always had a problem getting the ball in the air. Everything about her swing looks good except that 95% of her shots are worm-burners, no matter if she is hitting driver or 9 iron.

Anyway, we were at the range Saturday and she started off again hitting low shots. I had her move a little closer to the ball and it was like a switch went off! She was actually driving the ball with her driver and her lofted clubs were getting up in the air. I can't believe that something as simple as that fixed her problem.

So we went out and played yesterday and she was able to carry what she did on the range out on to the course. She shot 60/55 for a 115, by far the best I have ever seen her play. She had gotten pretty discouraged with the game and hadn't played for 3+ years. Now she can't wait to get back out again.

Moving the ball back in her stance will make the ball go higher as well.

I'm going to let her get a little consistency going right now before I start ****ing with her swing some more.

LMAO Don't make me school you.

Should have went to work, shot 83 from the tips with five double bogie's :banghead:. Just wasn't on on the front and put up a 44, then went to the back 9 and started playing better, still just shot a 39. Couldn't stay out of trouble.

All in all ended up getting things worked out, but not before I put up big numbers.

smittysbar 07-08-2008 10:42 PM

78 tonight. Man I keep having a couple of holes that I get into trouble of the tee, blocking it every now and then.

Watched the finally of the big break tonight, Kim won. But really I wasn't impressed with any of the girls on there. Kim hit it long but is a horrible putter. Sophie was probably the best. Man they had some hotties on there though.

Oh and if there are any lefties on here with a 52* titleist vokey wedge laying around I would be interested, need to fill the gap between my 56 and PW.

smittysbar 07-12-2008 09:19 AM

Playing in a tournament in Trenton, MO this weekend, most likely staying over and partying tonight. Anyone else on here playing over there or going out tonight?

Herzig probably has that wedge in a variety of colors.

I went out again Sunday. I was hitting my driver much better, long and relatively straight. I wasn't counting, but I think I hit all but about 2 or 3 fairways. And with one exception, the ones I missed were just off in the rough. I still didn't score so well, though. I needed 10 or less strokes on the last two holes to finish under 100 and parred the par 3 17th. Then I hit my only bad drive of the day on 18 (par 4). I jacked around and didn't go for the easy recovery and hit my second shot into the water. So I ended up with a quadruple bogey 8 and total of 100.

:cuss:

Oh well, it was a nice day out anyway.

One of my wife's contacts at work is getting us on at The National on August 8, so I'm really looking forward to that. Anyone else here play that course? How tough is it?

http://www.sghgolf.com/british_open/index_2008.html

The world’s leading golfers will be at Royal Birkdale in July to compete for golf’s oldest and most coveted trophy – The Claret Jug. There won’t be a shortage of special memories. Emotions are let loose when legends and near legends pass each other on golf’s world stage. Thousands of spectators (often called the most knowledgeable in the world) will flock to see their favorite players in action. You could be one of them.

The 137th British Open will be held at Royal Birkdale Golf Club and in preparation for the 2008 British Open, Royal Birkdale has been lengthened by 154 yards and upgraded in several other areas, Royal & Ancient Golf Club officials have announced. The new layout in the seaside town of Southport, England, totals approximately 7,122 yards.

One of Britain's finest golf clubs and host to two Ryder Cups, the Walker and Curtis Cups, the Women's British Open and the Open Championship, Royal Birkdale has been rated as one of the best courses in Britain. The stunning coastal resort of Southport is host to some of the finest links courses in England. This is the home of Royal Birkdale.

The Open was first staged at Royal Birkdale in 1954 when Peter Thomson won the first of his five Open Championships and he conquered again at Birkdale eleven years later in 1965. A further six Open Championships have been staged at the Lancashire course which many believe is the best English course on the Open rota. This famous challenging links course last hosted the Open Championship in July 1998 when Mark O'Meara beat Brian Watts in a play off.

WilliamTheIrish 07-15-2008 11:07 AM

Also, the BBC is reporting that Padraig Harrington may not play due to a wrist injury.

That kinda sucks for last years champ.

It is a nice track, you will enjoy it.

Sounds like your hitting the ball pretty good. Short game and scoring come from a ton of practice, keep it up, you will get there.

Pumped for the open this week, should be some good (or bad) golf

Good to see that. What happened to Watson?

kstater 07-18-2008 09:35 AM

Haven't played sine the weekend of the 4th(63 holes) and just shot horrible this morning. Doubled the first 3 holes and limped out with a 45. Going good on the back when I birdied the 13th then put up an 8 on 18 to limp home at 94. :Lin:

Shot 77 yesterday, but had one birdie, and one eagle. Man I missed 6 birdie putts on the front nine alone.

Watson was +5 I think, last I looked

'Hamas' Jenkins 07-18-2008 12:49 PM

Bitch Beem continuing to disgrace the game of golf. God, I'd love to see Finchem revoke his Tour Card after quitting because he didn't think he could break 90. That piece of trailer park trash should thank his lucky stars he hit the fucking powerball in 2002, because he is without a shadow of a doubt, one of the worst damn major champions there ever was, and to have that piece of monkey crap's name on the Wannamaker trophy sullies its very existence.

'Hamas' Jenkins 07-18-2008 12:51 PM

God, I love watching Daly absolutely implode. I hate that guy. What a complete waste of talent. A complete mental midget.

WilliamTheIrish 07-18-2008 08:53 PM

I also think Daly is insane. But he at least gutted it out and signed his card after the 89. Beem pullseda Wei bailed out.

How crazy would be if it was Tiger vs. Norman in the final pairing tomorrow. That would've been crazy. Either way, it's still pretty amazing what Norman's doing.

I don't even think Norman in his prime could beat Tiger.
Jack maybe 3/10, but not Norman.

No. Today's players are much better. I guess it is like that in most sports.

But why is that? Better training methods? Better equipment?

Put Tiger back in the day when Jack was in his prime. Would he have the same knowledge of the game that is available to him today? Vice-versa, put Jack in his prime in Tigers generation. Does he benefit from better equipment, training methods, etc?

With all sports, guys are at a different level then they were back then. Not just equipment, I would say a lot has to do with the age kids start these days. They get to devote so much time to it compared to back then.

milkman 07-20-2008 08:48 AM

I enjoy tournaments where there are some obstacles to overcome, but these courses and weather conditions are assinine.

Awesome for the Irishman!!!

That 5 wood from 270 that he stuck to withing 4 feet was the backbreaker for Poulter and the rest.

I get to keep my avatar for another year.

That shot and his shot into 18....amazing

Jack Nicklaus could hit a MacGregor strata block persimmon driver and a wound balata ball 300-340 yards. He won the PGA Long Drive in 1961 with a 340+ yard bomb with a 43" driver. With today's equipment, his accuracy and distance off the tee, he would absolutely punish these courses.

Tiger would make Jack say Uncle in 9 holes

Tiger lifts weights and is much stronger than Jack's fat ass. Many courses have tried to "Tiger proof" themselves by moving sand traps. In one instance, they moved the traps from 250 yds to 265. When asked how he would combat that Tiger said "Fly 'em". Tiger's strength also shows up in deep rough like at the U.S. Open. Tiger can power the ball out where Jack couldn't. Tiger can fly his 3 wood 270 and he recently did it. Tiger also has developed shots Jack didn't know were possible. The Tiger "flop shot" is but one example. I see other players using it now but never before Tiger "invented" it.

ROFL

This was when "Jesus" was 16. And it's an INVERTED flop. Tiger didn't invent the flop and he didn't invent the 3 wood chip.

Ask any of Nicklaus' competitors and they will say that his strength was one of his greatest assets, as well as his upright swing plane, which allowed him to power the ball out of deep rough. He's the same guy who played with lead tape under his grips to increase the mass of the club and could still lash the hell out of it.

I know that it's popular to canonize Woods, but tossing a guy aside as some chump who had fifty+ top 3's in majors is just lunacy.

Umm no.

As for as the equipment argument I would say not if Jack had todays equipment, but what if Tiger had to play with the equipment they played with in Jacks hey day.

I would love to see an old school tournament with todays players persimmon woods, balata wound balls, the old non-rifle irons, and old bulls-eye blade putters.

Ummm, no, Jack's competition had the same equipment that Jack did. Same with Tiger..

smittysbar 07-20-2008 09:40 PM

Seriously, yes equipment has gotten better. Courses have gotten harder though. There are a shit load of VERY talented golfers these days. Tiger is a phenomenon, plain and simple. He will shatter EVERY record in golf. Not even close.

BTW, I am not a big Tiger fan, but you have to respect the guy, I mean you are watching the greatest golfer ever, make history.

Not what I was saying .... I would love to see todays players play with that equipment. Not just Tiger mind you but everyone, atleast a one time tournament.

Went out yesterday and shot 95 (45/50). It's been a few years since I've done that. I had three pars on the front, should have been four, but I missed a three footer. I was hitting the new driver pretty good again as well.

A lot of you are probably thinking, "hmmm, 95? Who cares?" Well, I do for one...lol. When I used to play a lot, I shot in the mid-low 90s all the time, with the occassional high 80. It's probably been 4 years or more since I broke 100, so I'm pretty excited and would play every day now if I could.

Congrats.... Anytime you can make it out and enjoy the round it makes it all the more worth it. Here is to you breaking 90 next time you go out. :toast:

I actually got out on Friday for my 2nd time this year :cuss:. I usally have at least 20 rounds under my belt by this time. Played the front 9 terrible but rallied on the back, so now since I have had a taste I will have to get back on the wagon.

Don't worry man. I'm there with you right now. At my previous course, I could go down and shoot low 80's-mid 80's consistently. Moved out this year to a tougher course and my scored went up to low 90's-mid 90's. I just about done figuring my handicap and I'm looking at a 17 or so....maybe higher than that....I'll know after my next round.

I feel like I'm hitting the ball better this year, but on the tougher course, my score is higher. I've hit 100 more this year than I have in the past 4 years.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-08-2008 11:00 AM

Bump for the 2nd round of the PGA.

Mr. Plow 08-08-2008 11:12 AM

I thought they cancelled the golf season once Tiger went down.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-08-2008 01:06 PM

The lead has regressed back to -1. Garcia, dresses Baddeley among the leaders. Mickelson is one back after four straight pars.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-08-2008 01:13 PM

Jeev Milka rocking the villain 'stache, and Sergio misses the green from 30 yards.
