He comes back to Larryville from time to time. He, Coach Self and BCG are all pretty close, IIRC.

So...it looks like McLemore and Traylor aren't going to be eligible this year? First I've heard of this possibility.

"KU coach Bill Self implied at Thursday’s media day that an announcement may be coming soon indicating the two would not be cleared to play this season — “We still have hope, but we’re not holding our breath on that situation at all,” he said."

KC_Connection 10-14-2011 05:46 PM

I don't get the panic. We are still the B12 favorites with an incredibly good starting lineup. The only difference is that we don't have nearly as much depth as in past years, but that shouldn't be a huge problem in getting this team where it wants to go. Still look to be in a better position than the 2008-2009 team and that group did more than fine.

Yeah, we aren't going to be a NC favorite this time, but it's not like that's helped us in the past few years.

No panic, man. It would be nice to have B-Mac outside shooting, though. That's going to be our biggest weakness, I think.

Johnson and Releford can both make 3's at a good clip. Tyshawn was also near 40% last season. I've been told Merv can shoot, but who knows about him?

Also, looking at that schedule, we shouldn't panic if we lose games early. That non-conf. is probably the toughest in the country.

If his play this summer at events like the LeBron James Skills Academy or adidas Nations counselor games is any indication, Robinson is on the verge of having a breakout season that will put him firmly on the national radar screen as one of the best players in college basketball, as well as one of the top NBA prospects.
TRob's going to be very, very good this season. Just has to cut down on the fouls, though I'm sure Self will tell him to back off defensively.

Can you share anymore details.....TRob, how are the freshman (who are eligible) looking?

KC_Connection 10-14-2011 09:19 PM

As long as EJ, TT, Releford, and TRob are on the court, this team will do well. Withey's development will be interesting to watch.

Trob looked like he was trying a bit too hard to impress but thats just jitters im sure. he made a 3

Tyshawn looked great and healthy, making all good shots, not being stupid. he also made 3's

EJ and Releford were both nails on the perimeter

Withey looked improved from last year, but hes in between last year and where he should be IMO

Tharpe had flashes, no points, but he looked like he knew what he was doing.

actually 'meh' other than Trob,Tyshawn,EJ,rele but its just late night

Tough

“Tyshawn and Elijah have both been terrific since school began in August,” Self said. “They’ve not only performed well, they have been very responsible and disciplined the first few months of the school year. But during the offseason they violated a rule that I told them, because of some past experiences, their punishment was going to be severe and I was going to hold them out of the two exhibition games. They have been aware of this for several months and also are disappointed, but have had very positive attitudes about it.”

Considering that we really need that time to gel as a team before some really, really tough early games, it seems pretty severe to me.

Yeah, exhibition games against awful opponents don't mean much anyway (although I hope Releford is good enough to win them by himself now, we don't need trolls in this thread after an embarrassing preseason loss). Wish Self had just disciplined them by running sprints or something, though.
