Scrabble is worthless too. It wasn't that they sent him down (they honestly should probably just cut his ass), it was that they didn't also cut Salas and Boggs.

I've thought we should release Salas for some time, but was willing to give Boggs a chance to get his shit straightened out down on the farm. At this point he can **** off and die.

Frazod 05-02-2013 08:54 PM

What's the word on Motte?

'Hamas' Jenkins 05-02-2013 08:57 PM

Siegrist is on the 40 Man and they've used him as a reliever all year. He'd give the Cardinals another strikeout pitcher and he's a left-handed arm. If they wanted to keep Man Ass up they could.

Threw from 60 feet and felt good. I can't believe they're wasting valuable rehab time like this on such a long shot when his UCL is a time bomb.

Shows how desperate they are at the back of the pen.

Frazod 05-02-2013 09:03 PM

Holy shit - defense falling apart now.

Nice job, ladies.

BRC's boy got us through the eighth. Now I actually feel comfortable about this again.

Why did they pull Westbrook? He was cruising. Boggs and Salas have no business at the major league level right now. They need to go work out whatever they need in the minors.

Frazod 05-02-2013 09:30 PM

FINALLY.

****.

BigRedChief 05-02-2013 09:33 PM

Burned our bullpen with a 5 run lead. We are using Rosenthal way too much. No need to burn out his arm this early in his career and this year.

There's pretty much no options unless you want a guy like Gast up as a LOOGY/8th inning guy.

Frazod 05-02-2013 09:51 PM

Jimmy needs to work on not making reading off the teleprompter quite so obvious. LMAO

They did it during Westbrook's last start too. Matheny is absolutely loathe to use him in the 7th. I understand the reservation, but there is no way that Westbrook isn't a better option than anyone who isn't Mujica in the pen right now.

Kelly is not good
Rosenthal is trending up but is being overused
Boggs is a disaster
Salas is a disaster
Choate is just a LOOGY

I have no idea what to expect from Man Ass other than no walks.

They have absolutely no options unless it's Rosenthal-Mujica, which means you need your starters to go seven.

Because he isn't dominating Springfield to the extent that Gast has been dominating Memphis.

And yes, I do realize Springfield is in a hitter's league. But still. What Gast has been doing has been sick.

Gast is the next man up if there's an injury in the rotation, IMO. Plus, he's not on the 40 man. Releasing Salas would fix that, but you still need to cut him to do that.

Siegrist gives you a second lefty with swing-and-miss stuff.

FWIW, I wouldn't look at Siegrist's ERA. His BAA is below .200 and he has 21 Ks in 11IP. That's ****ing filth.

There is no way Larussa would have pulled Boggs from the closer role and sent him down as fast as Methany. :thumb:

Hate to burn a year of Martinez but we could make a run this year. Going to have to shore up the bullpen. Better than trading him at the break for a rental. Why not use a year?:hmmm:

I couldn't remember how long it took LaRussa to pull the plug on Franklin, so I looked it up. He was demoted from the closer role on April 19, 2011 and released on June 29. Appeared in 21 games.

So apparently Matheny is a faster learner, but still not fast enough.

I don't know that he is. There are some indications that Mo stepped in to make the demotion.

Izzy occasionally didn't completely shit his pants in the 9th inning. Boggs can't stop from soiling his drawers in the 9th, and now, any game.

Dude are you seriously defending Izzy? We are talking about the last year of Izzy, not the good ole days.

Mi_chief_fan 05-03-2013 06:47 PM

Carlos Martinez up, presumably in the pen. Filthy stuff, wonder how he'll transition to the pen?

'Hamas' Jenkins 05-03-2013 07:06 PM

That HR by Holliday was the hardest hit ball I've seen from a Cardinal in a long, long time.

In July that thing was going 480+.

It is. It's also doubtful he'll be ready at the beginning of the next year. At best, he may be near effective strength towards the stretch drive.

If waino is just now getting back to normal, motte's not going to be back to full speed next year. Wasn't it motte that wanted to postpone?

Frazod 05-03-2013 08:44 PM

Nice first inning for the rookie.

'Hamas' Jenkins 05-03-2013 08:45 PM

He won't look as impressive in the box score as he was in that inning. He had Betancourt absolutely fooled on that hook and he just stuck the bat out and got lucky. Aoki shook his head after one of the fastballs.

Absolutely amazing arm. What makes it all the better: we stole him out from under the Red Sox.

'Hamas' Jenkins 05-03-2013 08:55 PM

I don't get it. He has nothing. His FB tops out at 90 and he can only throw it for a strike if it's belt high over the middle of the plate. Same with this crap changeup.

He'd be getting lit up in AA. No reason for him to waste a roster spot anymore.

Absolutely! Actually met him in 2011 when Quad Cities was in South Bend; very nice, quiet kid, actually came up to my nephew & signed his glove, seemed excited about signing autographs. Oh yeah, and he can hit 100 mph, too.

Remember when our best option was PJ Walters when we needed an arm? This would be a guy that in past years would be up there as a prospect. Not running him down, but times have changed for the better competition wise.

I was looking at our opening day roster for 2011 recently: Look at that bullpen, just a reality check, it could be worse!
