Your condescending attitude looks a bit reeruned here. MLK day is Monday, pretty sure quite a few folks aren't working anyway.

610. Chiefs say no change at this time but they are monitoring it and that fan safety is the priority.

Also this just went up at the weather channel. The guy explains what .5" of ice would do to the stadium. His line at the end is a bit telling as well, "I won't be surprised if they shake the scheduling up over this thing in the next day or so."

The system as a whole is moving slower than originally predicted. So by the time most of the moisture makes it to the KC metro area, the temps will be above freezing bringing primarily rain.

But

He says there will still be slicks spots in the morning from isolated cells before the temps can get above freezing.

Just heard him on 810 ranting about crappy meteorologists overhyping this. Says we'll be fine. Chance of some icing Sunday morning but could be dry. Game time seems to be when rain picks up.

The national weather service, which is about the only weather I pay attention to, hasn't budged on their forecast. If anything, it's gotten worse in the past few days.

mr. tegu 01-13-2017 08:53 AM

I think it's pretty clear at this point that we are going to get enough ice to make driving a bit sketchy and hazardous at the least to the point that you will need to drive slowly and carefully and probably not leave the house if you don't need to. Whether or not we get enough so that this leads to broken trees, power outages, and completely undrivable conditions seems to be the main question.

There's not much "they" to NWS point forecasts. It's a constantly updating set of computer models.

They posted on FB that they are backing off on the amounts for KC:

Freezing rain/drizzle has developed across southern Missouri this morning and should expand north throughout the day. Hazardous travel conditions are possible for areas south of Highway 36 today, particularly during the evening commute. While we have trended ice totals back slightly through Sunday, the same impacts previously mentioned remain possible as a little ice goes a long way. We will provide updates here throughout the weekend to ensure you're kept up to date on the latest as the event unfolds.

Its raining in Joplin and doesn't look like its going to ever get cold enough for roads to freeze over.

It was 72 degrees here Wednesday and has been warm all week its going to take some time for the ground to get cold enough to ice over and it doesn't look to be cold long enough for that to happen.

I hope the same goes for KC.

Same here. The ground temp is too warm for anything to stick around here. Oh and we went from .75 to 1.25 here last night with chance of certain death to a trace to .25 if lucky...

You on the north or south side? I heard that a tree fell into a power line in north Springfield (Kearney and Grant area), but don't know if it was necessarily weather related. I'm at work along Primrose, and there's been nothing but rain here. Traffic looks to be moving along just fine, what little traffic there is.

Not Gonna Happen

Smed1065 01-13-2017 12:02 PM

A Missouri farmer dies and goes to hell.
After being there a couple days the Devil asks the farmer how he likes the heat? The farmer says to the Devil, "You don't understand, Devil. I'm from Missouri.
Haven't you ever been to Missouri in June?"

The Devil gets pissed and cranks up the heat the next day and asks the farmer what he thought about the heat now? The farmer said "You don't get it, Devil. I'm from Missouri .
Haven't you ever been to Missouri in July?"

The Devil gets even more pissed and cranks the heat up some more. He goes back to the farmer and says "now what do you think of this heat?" The farmer says "You sure are stupid. I told you, I'm from Missouri.
Haven't you ever been to Missouri in August?"

Now the Devil is irate and figures he will fix the farmer but good. So the Devil turns the AC up as high as it will go. Frost icicles are hanging all over the place, it's so cold.
The Devil asks the farmer, "well, now what do you think of this cold?"

The farmer says, "HOLY SHIT! The Chiefs won the Super Bowl!"
