Go Cubs Go!

jd1020 10-12-2017 10:46 PM

I'm happy now.

I just wanted to see a nice run in the playoffs this year because I dont see the WS being anything other than the Dodgers vs Astros.

A’s vs Royals might be the best playoff game of all time

tk13 10-12-2017 10:47 PM

They gutted that out. Pretty much burned up this team like it was the World Series to do it.

Al Bundy 10-12-2017 10:47 PM

Thank god the Royals traded Wade Davis for that power hitting AAA Soler loser.

No arguments here, but a 43 pitch relief outing after Maddon's dumbass burned him up in Game 4 is still an incredibly gutsy finish.

Davis should strongly consider sending Jose a Christmas gift, though.

ping2000 10-12-2017 10:48 PM

They had to bring up that we traded Wade Davis for a steaming pile of shit. Thanks.

Not the best in Royals history, Royals history is game 6 against those bums from across the state.

Well Dane still thinks it was great trade. If we Davis this year we are in the playoffs. Soria blew what 6 games?

Hosmer might be a Cardinal

tk13 10-12-2017 10:52 PM

3rd time a pitcher has gotten a 7 out save in a winner take all playoff game. The other two were Bumgarner and Vida Blue in the 70s.

I ****ing hope not. Career 111 wRC+ from a first baseman is shit, and he seems to play at or below replacement level every other year.

So who do you target in free agency? Unless it’s Stanton I think 1st base is a priority.

I was talking about one game not a series. That game Rangers would’ve won if Cruz knew how to play a fly ball. Royals had to come back from a 4 run deficit in the bottom of the eighth and than had to overcome another deficit in extras. Hosmers triple of the wall is the equivalent to Freese triple. Both very good games. If that game would’ve been game 7 than that game by far would be the best game

Hosmer is literally one of the best 1B in the game. I still think DM can sign him. If Hos re signs you can start building the statue outside of Kauffman immediately

All good points.

If I'm being objective, I think Game 6 of 2011 edges out the WC by virtue of it being a WS game (plus the Cards were down to their last strike twice and facing elimination).

The Royals WC game is certainly one of the greatest ever, though.

Hosmer was a different player this year. In past years he was always very streaky. This year he was much more consistent. If he plays like he did this year, he'll be worth the contract regardless of his past advanced metrics.

Now if that was just a contract year performance, it's a different story.

Coach 10-12-2017 11:09 PM

A lot of defense sloppiness by the Nats that did them in.

Werth misses that fly ball. That allowed a run to score. Seriously, how can you miss that (my guess, his eyes got caught in the lights)?

Wieters chucking that passed ball to first despite getting hit in the mask, which allowed a run to score, I believe.

Wieters was awful behind the plate.

That's two runs there.

He is not any of those things. In 400 more games since he came up, he has the same WAR as Mark Teixeira, who retired after 2016. Hell, he has barely half the WAR of Brandon Belt in 230 more games.

They showed a close up and he was following the ball with his eyes the whole way. He just flat out missed it.

Washington would have been better off getting an expansion team, they will never win anything having the Expos history, its as snake bit as it gets.

Chiefspants 10-13-2017 09:28 PM

siberian khatru 10-13-2017 09:29 PM

That was a Brett vs Gossage-level blast

tk13 10-13-2017 09:29 PM

Bird looks good. They don't need Hosmer.

Really though, this whole stretching your pitching staff way out beyond their normal limits seems to always be a shaky proposition. Giles will probably get it done but it'll take over 35 pitches.

ping2000 10-13-2017 09:30 PM

That short LF in Houston is so ... slow pitch. Gonzales made a great play to nail Bird at the plate, but it was like he threw from 50 feet beyond SS.

duncan_idaho 10-14-2017 08:47 AM

I feel like reliever usage is starting to swing too far the other way... Too reliant on stretching guys out past normal workload. Not everyone is Andrew Miller.

Also wonder how long it will be before starters stop being used for middle innings. Bad track record this postseason.

Bird got a shitty lead. It was 3-2 and two outs. Also he just had ankle surgery two months ago. It took a perfect throw to get him.

Bird is a mainstay if he can stay healthy. The Yanks don’t need hosmer. They have a shit load more of talent coming up from the minors next year. This is just the beginning

I've never believed the Yankees were even interested in Hosmer.

I thought Bird got a decent jump, but LF there can be played like LF in Boston. As a baserunner be prepared to play station to station on balls hit to LF. As an OF'er, play shallow because just about everything over your head will be a HR or hit high off the wall.

Yeah, this was my somewhat bitter post about the park while the Royals were losing their series a couple years ago..... and another ball just hit the roof.

A ball hit the roof. No one even knows where Cain's home run went yesterday.

Yankees about to have a Jeffrey Maier moment against them.

Deberg_1990 10-14-2017 03:47 PM

How did that kid not get nailed for interference on Correas HR? His glove was over the wall. It looked to me like if the glove had not been there it would have hit the top of the wall and stayed in the park.

The game was tied.

Don't agree with taking Quintana out with 80 something pitches. I don't know what it takes for Contreras to call for something in after 7 and 8 pitch ABs and literally everything on the outside edge.

tk13 10-14-2017 08:20 PM

Yeah, that's pretty smart to throw a fastball right near at the heart of the plate against Puig.
