Took Rahm / Koepka group 2 1/2 hours to complete front nine. They will be finishing at sunset.

Good for Mickelson.

Gary Cooper 04-09-2023 03:20 PM

I'm rooting for Phil to win the Green Jacket and pull a Hollywood Hulk Hogan immediately afterward. I'm talking about spray painting LIV on the jacket and then telling all the fans to stick it.

Can't believe he's 28. Dude looks ten years older.

Koepka fading?

scho63 04-09-2023 03:57 PM

Rahm and Koepka are two of the fastest players on tour and are stuck waiting 3-4 minutes on EVERY shot.

I would have far preferred the PGA Tour and its media to eat their words about the quality of LIV for the past year with a Koepka win but Rahm beating him is hardly a surprise. He’s been the best player in the world for a few years now and certainly has been in this spot more recently than Koepka. That very clearly showed today.

Mickelson also coming T2 thirty years after his first major top 10 (1993 PGA) is a remarkable accomplishment. Such a crazy talent level.

Masters usually sucks. They invite half the field of regular tourneys and fill it with like 20 geezers. So you get crap endings like this a lot

There was no reason for him to push it.

That course with all the elevation changes is a grind on a young person walking it.

He wasn't going to play a round and a half on that hilly course and in those conditions. He needs to recuperate and get ready for the British Open, a tournament he can actually win.

People always knock the Masters for the field, but who didn't play would you liked to see in?

I think it's the right group of players.

Top 50 golfers in the world.

All the tournament winners from April to March.

All the recent major winners and top 4 finishers at previous majors.

I could see bumping up the OWGR group from 50 to 60. I think the exclusivity is what makes it special. One of the cool things about watching a young golfer win a tour event is thinking immediately, he's going to the Masters!

He should petition to play with a golf cart (it's probably the only way he'll ever win another golf tournament), but it seems he has too much pride to ever do it.

I suspect Tiger would qualify given the state of his leg and I suspect the Tour would gladly let him do it. Still don't think he does it.

It’s going to e okay Schmo. You can still blow the LIV boys. One of these days those guys might win a tournament that end after 54 holes. That was simply an epic collapse from the Kupkake’s drive on 1. No other way to look at it.

When he's old enough he's going to play the Champions tour where golf carts are allowed.

KC_Connection 04-10-2023 01:43 PM

Phil did pretty well in his final 18 holes of the 72.

Looked to me like Koepka just got nervous because he hadn't been in that spot in four years and wasn't able to play his best as a result.

Agreed.

I think he’s still mentally shaken. He talked about it on the series Full Swing. When he was on, he knew he wasn’t going to let a miss hit end his round. It’s tough to keep that edge when other guys are climbing the mountain and you get a nagging injury. Then you try to compensate for that and injure something else.

Phil did finish strong but I'm glad he didn't win. He had the fans on his side when he won the PGA at Kiawa but now not so much now.

srvy 04-10-2023 02:17 PM

The Master's website listed he withdrew due to a flareup of Plantar fasciitis. So doesn't seem it was due to the leg injuries if that was correct.

Sorry to interrupt your PGA/LIV argument.

Nice! I only have a couple rounds below 90. both involved a fair amount of luck/odd circumstances. Mostly I'm a 100+ shooter. But my primary goal in golf is to drink beer and have fun, a lot of times we stop keeping score and just bet drinks on every other hole.

I must have just imagined the golf establishment journalists ripping the LIV and its golfers to shreds last year talking about how they weren’t playing real tournament golf and shouldn’t get OWGR points or exemptions to majors as a result.
