The gas stations goal is to pretty much break even on the fuel costs. That is why they do everything they can to get you in the store to buy snacks, beer, etc. That is where they make their profit.

I can confirm this is the case. We have a client that owns about 50 gas stations. They say they make less than 3% on gas, they make their money in the convenience store.

I can't go into a QuikTrip without grabbing a couple cheesy pepper jack taquitos.

Apparently you like over paying, I don't.

I need to start buying quick trips.

QuikTrip would be a great stock to own. Unfortunately, they’re privately held, owned by the employees primarily, with the founding family still heavily involved. American Dream Company through and through.

Went by QT on the way home to gas up before the ****ing avalanche hits tonight. It was $3.89 for 87, and I had to wait in line about 5 minutes...

I’m happy I have an 8 mile round trip commute to work.

Upstream

Mid stream

Downstream

To produce energy is a whole host of companies before it gets to your car. They don’t pump gas out of the ground good to go. Hell very few oils come out of the ground good to go.

You have to find it $$$

You have to develop it $$$$$$$

You have to produce it $$$$$

You have to refine it $$$$

You have to transport it $$$$$

It’s very complex, and that’s why any policy that touches finding/development/production sends a huge ripple through the rest of it. Because it’s sunk cost.

Lease sales being stopped then started hurts. Because even if you buy the rights to xyz land you have to FIND oil on that land. Then if your lucky and do, you have to develop that lease (drill etc) which is very painful. Then you have to PRODUCE on that land.

Before it even gets to the refinery there is a shit load of cost associated.

Saw $6.29 today in SD for 87, average in my neighborhood looks to be around $5.75.
