Yes. But he wasn't under pressure. The other two throws were much better b/c of the pressure.

I can't believe it took me this long.

Geno Smith's initials are GS. That's the same as mine.

This shit is destiny, I'm telling you.

kcbubb 12-20-2012 05:30 PM

I couldn't find one play on that entire video where he moved his head before scrambling.

kcbubb 12-20-2012 05:31 PM

He throws to his first receiver most of the time.

RealSNR 12-20-2012 05:38 PM

I already had this conversation about Geno's reads and how he looks off defenders either with kcbubb or Blackbob. I can't remember which one, but it went nowhere the first time. I really have no desire to have it again.

The thing that bothers me is his ability to go through a progression. Watch his head. His head almost never moves to the other side of the field. We need a QB that can manipulate a defense with his eyes. Geno looks like he has a high low read on one side of the field. This won't work in the NFL. If someone has some video that shows he can go through a progression or manipulate a defense with his eyes, I would like to see it.

I'm curious as to how many "reads" some of you think a QB has once the ball is snapped?

ROFL Really.

That pump and go was pretty friggin sweet too. His deep ball touch is incredible.

O.city 12-20-2012 05:48 PM

I guess no credit is given unless a guy is under pressure, goes from one side of the field to the other 3 times and throws a 50 yard laser underhanded.

awesome. so QBs don't make reads or manipulate the defense with their eyes. Brees is one of the best at it. We need someone with the ability to do this.

Unfortunately that is one of Geno's main flaws. You can't stare down WR's in the NFL and expect success. Cassel did that with Bowe and well....we know how that ended.

The Franchise 12-20-2012 05:52 PM

OH MY GOD GUYZ!!!! QBS CAN NEVER GET BETTER! IF HE WASN'T DOING IT IN COLLEGE.....HE'S NEVER GOING TO DO IT IN THE NFL!!!

O.city 12-20-2012 05:55 PM

In all seriousness, I'd say 85% of a Qb's "reads" are done presnap. Usually, in most route combinations, depending on defensive alignment, you will have a deep read, intermediate read, and a short read. As a Qb, you are taught to read deep to short, when time in the pocket permits. Other defensive alignments require a route underneath, pulling LBs up, a deep post pulling safeties back and an intermediate in the middle drop zone.

Zone vs. man reads are alot different. You can't always say a guy "locks" onto a wr, and know exactly that it is infact what he did. For instance, presnap if I know I have single converage on the outside with my speed guy and he's running a deep go or a flag, I'm "locking" on to him until I determine he's beating his man or not. If it's a post and I know there in single deep or cover 3 (unlikely route combo IMO) I've gotta move that guy in the middle and hope my guy beats the man under.

Watch some of Brady's 2007 tape. He locks onto Moss, nearly every play action pass and waits, because he knows presnap where and what he's seeing.

Most plays don't have reads on a single side, with a route or two on the other side that are usually the 3 or 4th read and you have on average 2.5 seconds to determine what to do.

RealSNR 12-20-2012 05:56 PM

That was against Marshall, Pest. That one doesn't count.

O.city 12-20-2012 05:59 PM

The fact of zone vs. man will determine alot of "reads". IIRC, OU plays alot of man and man under with a single safety.

Pasta Little Brioni 12-20-2012 05:59 PM

Show me a better college deep ball. Cmon bubb still waiting for Brees looking off safeties like a madman in college as well.

O.city 12-20-2012 06:03 PM

In that Brees film, most of his look offs, or the first few minutes I watched, teams are playing alot of straight zone. The Bears play Tampa 2, which makes it a must by the Qb to move guys around.

Pasta Little Brioni 12-20-2012 06:05 PM

It's not that O. It's comparing a 10 year pro headed for the HOF to a college Sr.

It's like coming out and saying that this team needs Joe Montana in his prime to be successful. If that was the case....no one would EVER draft a QB.

First one that I have seen. He has some talent. I just don't think he will translate well to the NFL. The game will be way to complex for him. He won't be able to throw to his first WR all the time. We don't need a QB that is as raw as Geno is. We need someone who can play now. He's got a nice release. Throws the ball pretty well. Inconsistent sometimes, but they all are.

Apparently, you didn't read that he grew up as a child prodigy. Yeah, I'm sure a boy-genius doesn't just become stupid overnight, and I'm quite confident the NFL playbooks and schemes won't be too "complex" for dumb ole` Geno. Maybe Powe, but not Geno.

I don't blame you guys for doing this. But you are falling in love with something that doesn't translate to the NFL. We have had such bad QB play and haven't drafted one for so long that it is easy to fall in love with a guy that looks sexy throwing it. He throws a pretty ball. But he doesn't show the mental part of the game. I wish he did. I'm sorry. He's also pretty inconsistent, but again they all are.

He won't have a shitty OL like that if he comes to KC. And he's dealt with this for 1 year. That's not gonna ruin him.

If anything, he's proven that he's a tough SOB who has an incredible pocket presence and stands tall.

Yes, it can happen to anyone. But the fact that reports are showing that an initial concussion makes you more prone to concussions reoccurring with less actual force isn't something to wink at.

As I stated before Wilson is more susceptible to injury because of his history, when I hear "he's a tough SOB" that usually means he's taking an influx of hits that will **** with him though out his playing years and this shit is already happening in college.

And answer the question, last year against that OU defense, how many times did he make a read and come to the other side of the field?

Before you come in this thread and start shitting on QB's, you might wanna do a little research into how QB's actually play.

:) That's funny. Have you watched the skins play? RG3 doesn't have to make a lot of reads right now. They are running the option and running play action passes off of it. That's there base offense. He doesn't have to be RGIII right now because of his athletic ability. Geno doesn't have that luxury.

Yeah, I've watched the Skins play. I've also watched Shanny's offense for 15 years, which is what they are running.

Dude isn't gonna make it by relying on his athletic ability and if you want a QB that has to do that to be your franchise QB, you're a moron.

The reason RGIII will be successful is if he uses his legs, when he absolutely must.

He's still doing the same thing he did in that OU film, where he takes off when the first option isnt' there. He got blasted against OU and he's taking unneeded shots now.

He has everthing you could want from a QB. And the stereotype of Petrino being the reason for his success is moot when you have a ST's coach and put up the same numbers as the year before with jack shit on the field (Cobi Hamilton was almost always double covered).

This play sums up his year at Arkansas.

He has everthing you could want from a QB. And the stereotype of Petrino being the reason for his success is moot when you have a ST's coach and put up the same numbers as the year before with jack shit on the field (Cobi Hamilton was almost always double covered).

This play sums up his year at Arkansas.

I like Wilson too, I'm a partial Hogs fan.

You know there is a Wilson thread like this one tho right?

Sorry i made it larger but it was over 5mb. Basically the same thing as the other gif up there. Except during the orange bowl last year.

I was being sarcastic. That clearly shows him making 2 reads.

Alright. That orange bowl video is a nice video to watch. The growth from last year to this year in him is very impressive.

That gif from the Orange Bowl is bad, he only looked left then right. He needs to look left, then right, then left again.

But what exactly are you so afraid of? He's gonna bust? Where does that put us?

I want to draft a QB. Just not Geno, with the #1 pick. I wouldn't mind taking him later if we were to trade down. But I don't think he is much better than any of the other QBs. His weaknesses are different. But overall, I don't think he is alot better than the other guys.
