How about 3:29?

I can't believe it took me this long.
Geno Smith's initials are GS. That's the same as mine. This shit is destiny, I'm telling you. |
I couldn't find one play on that entire video where he moved his head before scrambling.
|
He throws to his first receiver most of the time.
|
**** you bubb
|
I already had this conversation about Geno's reads and how he looks off defenders either with kcbubb or Blackbob. I can't remember which one, but it went nowhere the first time. I really have no desire to have it again.

i think black bob has 'game tape' for the people who have never bothered to watch smith play... |
I'm curious as to how many "reads" some of you think a QB has once the ball is snapped?
|

That pump and go was pretty friggin sweet too. His deep ball touch is incredible. |
I guess no credit is given unless a guy is under pressure, goes from one side of the field to the other 3 times and throws a 50 yard laser underhanded.

You have vids of him doing that in college?

Unfortunately that is one of Geno's main flaws. You can't stare down WR's in the NFL and expect success. Cassel did that with Bowe and well....we know how that ended.
|
OH MY GOD GUYZ!!!! QBS CAN NEVER GET BETTER! IF HE WASN'T DOING IT IN COLLEGE.....HE'S NEVER GOING TO DO IT IN THE NFL!!!

You want to see him under pressure and make a read?

In all seriousness, I'd say 85% of a Qb's "reads" are done presnap. Usually, in most route combinations, depending on defensive alignment, you will have a deep read, intermediate read, and a short read. As a Qb, you are taught to read deep to short, when time in the pocket permits. Other defensive alignments require a route underneath, pulling LBs up, a deep post pulling safeties back and an intermediate in the middle drop zone.
Zone vs. man reads are alot different. You can't always say a guy "locks" onto a wr, and know exactly that it is infact what he did. For instance, presnap if I know I have single converage on the outside with my speed guy and he's running a deep go or a flag, I'm "locking" on to him until I determine he's beating his man or not. If it's a post and I know there in single deep or cover 3 (unlikely route combo IMO) I've gotta move that guy in the middle and hope my guy beats the man under. Watch some of Brady's 2007 tape. He locks onto Moss, nearly every play action pass and waits, because he knows presnap where and what he's seeing. Most plays don't have reads on a single side, with a route or two on the other side that are usually the 3 or 4th read and you have on average 2.5 seconds to determine what to do. |
That was against Marshall, Pest. That one doesn't count.
|
The fact of zone vs. man will determine alot of "reads". IIRC, OU plays alot of man and man under with a single safety.
|
Show me a better college deep ball. Cmon bubb still waiting for Brees looking off safeties like a madman in college as well.
|
In that Brees film, most of his look offs, or the first few minutes I watched, teams are playing alot of straight zone. The Bears play Tampa 2, which makes it a must by the Qb to move guys around.
|
It's not that O. It's comparing a 10 year pro headed for the HOF to a college Sr.

It's like coming out and saying that this team needs Joe Montana in his prime to be successful. If that was the case....no one would EVER draft a QB. |

Another clown trying to disprove my man Geno. Prepare to be........

I don't blame you guys for doing this. But you are falling in love with something that doesn't translate to the NFL. We have had such bad QB play and haven't drafted one for so long that it is easy to fall in love with a guy that looks sexy throwing it. He throws a pretty ball. But he doesn't show the mental part of the game. I wish he did. I'm sorry. He's also pretty inconsistent, but again they all are.
|
I think we found Blackbob's uncle.

Go watch RGIII's highlight against OU last year, tell me how many "reads" he makes.
I watched that game live by the way and after rewatching the highlights of all his throws, it wasn't as impressive as I remember. |

If anything, he's proven that he's a tough SOB who has an incredible pocket presence and stands tall. 1 little concussion and he's Tony Moeaki. Holy ****ing shit people. |

He makes one play in the whole clip where he makes a read and throws to a guy that isn't the first option. He pump fakes quite a bit, which is good to see. |
Quote:
Wear and tear is ****ed it just takes one killer hit to **** you over unless you are made out of different shit like Elway and Favre. "one little concussion"?Dude that's serious shit that could **** with him throughout his career. |
I like Wilson alot, he's 1b for me though.

And answer the question, last year against that OU defense, how many times did he make a read and come to the other side of the field? Before you come in this thread and start shitting on QB's, you might wanna do a little research into how QB's actually play. |
Quote:
His OL is by far the worst of any of these QB's. |
Quote:
Does it have to do with the fact that Geno ran a prostyle offense as a sophmore and was successful? Or that he's put up numbers in any system he's been in? This ****ing fanbase. Let me guess, you are on board with grabbing Vick or Alex Smith and starting them right? |

I have another gif where he read the d that i made, but i cant post links on here yet. Can i send it to someone to post?

Dude isn't gonna make it by relying on his athletic ability and if you want a QB that has to do that to be your franchise QB, you're a moron. The reason RGIII will be successful is if he uses his legs, when he absolutely must. He's still doing the same thing he did in that OU film, where he takes off when the first option isnt' there. He got blasted against OU and he's taking unneeded shots now. |

I like Geno. Would be thrilled if we got him. But I'm partial to Tyler Wilson.
He has everthing you could want from a QB. And the stereotype of Petrino being the reason for his success is moot when you have a ST's coach and put up the same numbers as the year before with jack shit on the field (Cobi Hamilton was almost always double covered). This play sums up his year at Arkansas. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/PtMXbeUCEQs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Can't tell what the **** is happening in this Geno GIF.

But what exactly are you so afraid of? He's gonna bust? Where does that put us? |

You know there is a Wilson thread like this one tho right? |

I was being sarcastic. That clearly shows him making 2 reads.

That gif from the Orange Bowl is bad, he only looked left then right. He needs to look left, then right, then left again.
