Holland is an interesting consideration for the "failed medical" piece, too. He was involved in talks about Cueto earlier this year.

When would they take an exam?

Could be Fuenmayor or Maneaa

Better be talking Cueto AND Bruce or Leake.

Reds, Royals scuttle Johnny Cueto trade

The Reds and Royals scuttled a deal that would have sent right-hander Johnny Cueto to Kansas City earlier tonight, according to a report from Ken Rosenthal and Jon Morosi of FOXSports.com. The deal fell through due to the medical records of one player going from the Royals to the Reds not checking out, according to the report.

According to a baseball source, the deal came close enough to fruition that Reds' starter Michael Lorenzen warmed up for the team before tonight's game, preparing to take Cueto's place on the mound in Colorado. The deal was scuttled before gametime, allowing Cueto to pitch.

Kansas City has long been linked to the ace righty and will likely continue its pursuit with different pieces, despite interest from other clubs like the Yankees and Blue Jays. It is obviously unclear at this time whether or not the sides will be able to put together a revised deal, though the complete cancellation of a blockbuster trade signals that the questionable medical records of the unidentified Royals' player belonged to a significant piece.

Cueto went eight shutout innings against the Rockies tonight, allowing only four hits and gaining his eighth win of the season. Based on the information at hand, it appears that Cueto was aware of how close the trade came to reality as he took the mound for his start.

Just because someone isn't on the DL doesn't necessarily mean that he's "checking out medically".

For example, teams could have serious health concerns over one Kyle Zimmer and all of his troubles over the past... well since he was drafted.

So is this a no go for Cueto now

doomy3 07-25-2015 09:34 PM

I can't understand why the Reds would want to take on Holland, while they are apparently open to moving Chapman.

But I don't see how that kills a trade at the last minute. Every team in baseball knows his history.

From reports DM wanted Cueto at all cost so I bet they work it out.

Keep at it, GMDM. Whatever happened, I'm sure we can work something out.

God, I hope not. Really really not a fan of rentals

It could be for anyone, I was just citing Zimmer as an example. I am not really sure how that works and I am not in the know, but i'd think that a player doesn't have to be on the DL to have red flags.

C3HIEF3S 07-25-2015 09:38 PM

LMAO You're telling me not one person from the Reds' higher-ups can sit down with Cueto and simply tell him what's going on/ possibly could happen?
