All it takes is one trade partner, correct?

lol.

He might be able to turn the regular two picks into a 6th as he did a couple of years ago though. There have been some decent bargains there at times, like the kid Buffalo picked up at CB this year (Benford) or a good RB like Khalil Herbert (Bears 2021) and, of course, Trey Smith falling.

Overall this was an underwhelming trade deadline.

Yeah, you're right. I forgot about the 7ths they are in line for as comps with Reed, Pringle, and Hughes then the 7th they are getting for Fenton.

Veach will likely have 5 7th round picks at the very end of the draft hahaaha. That's just stupid. I mean, if he can make them work like he did this year, kudos.

I'm not going to get too excited though, its mostly just throwing darts at priority UDFA types and hoping for the best.

Could throw one in for a trade of a cap causality that we would want and then sign and extend rather than deal on the open market.

Gets him a few lotto tickets on priority UDFAs, I guess.

An individual 7th has little/no value to me. As a bundle of them? Hell, there might be something interesting there.

If I'm some team sitting there looking at its board in the 5th and I see a shitload of guys sliding down that I don't think will want to play for my sorry team, that 5th may be less valuable than a pile of 7ths I can shotgun at flyers.

It's one of those 'combined weight' sort of things similar to having back to back 1s last year. I think having both 1s back to back created just a little more value than either one of those picks in a vacuum.

Having all 5 of those things may actually create a little more value than we think.

Yeah, they really threw the kitchen sink at it.

Given the salary cap situation I have no idea what you believe was possible in fantasy land.

Obviously more was possible. They were still in on trades, they just weren't matching their offer to the asking price.

I'm more talking about the offseason Ocity was referring to earlier.

Maybe prioritize it more in the draft instead of a slot WR in the 2nd? Or a 3rd safety in teh 2nd?

Zdarius Smith? I dunno. More than a vet minimum type guy in Dunlap and Karlaftis. The bigger issue, IMO, was bringing Frank Clark back and expecting....well anything different really.

I think the Z.Smith situation has been covered no? He signed while KC was still dealing with Hill's contact situation before they traded him.

And I dunno, just because you don't like the picks they made and are wringing your hands about DE doesn't mean the approach was wrong. Hell you act like this is last years defense. Its not, its much much better.

I suppose if you were all in on your hopes to get DL help.

I'm pretty stoked about getting Toney myself. A lot of guys were screaming to move up into the top 20 for a WR this past offseason... Well, Veach just pretty much did that with a pick around 105 and a 6th. Buys him only 3.5 years instead of 5 but that's a bargain.

Statistically, it's a bad defense still. It's not historically bad, so kudos, but it's still not good.

Now atleast this year it's young, so there's potential upside.

They struggled with teh DL last year and we all talked about it coming into the year and surprise surprise, it's still not good enough hence the blitzing.

We should have traded all of our picks for a 2nd-tier DE!!!

Brandin Cooks is going to try the OBJ post-trade deadline approach in Cleveland of forcing his release?

Brandin is about to void his $18M guaranteed 2023 contract. Perhaps he thinks he should join the Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams $$$$$ group.

Quote:

Under his contract, a copy of which PFT has obtained, the guaranteed salary for 2023 becomes “NULL AND VOID” if Cooks commits a “default” user the specific terms of the contract.

A default occurs if (among other things) the player, without “prior written consent” of coach Lovie Smith or G.M. Nick Caserio, “fails to practice with or play for Club” for reasons other than a football-related injury or illness.
