Get an historic defense, like the Bears, Bucs, or Ravens, and your organization can win one SB. And then, if you're mediocre, like Billick, you'll never win another playoff game.

So wait a minute, is the QB or the defense? I'm so confused trying to keep up with some of you....

He is, at his core, an offensive-minded HC. And he's also just the kind of '**** you, we're winning this game' style of HC that I love. He's Marty's heart/attitude but with an actual gamblers streak offensively. He'd bring back the fire and passion that made the Chiefs defense great in the mid-90s but would also bring that offensive creativity that fueled the Vikings and (here and there) made the Ravens offense look good.

Billick isn't just Marty mediocrity. He's absolutely everything you'd want in a HC if you didn't see him stumble towards the end in Baltimore. Well, Coglans law applies there, does it not? Everything ends badly...otherwise it wouldn't end. Every coach eventually runs out of steam; happens to all but the greatest of the great. Billick stumbled and lost his job - that doesn't mean that the things that happened before the stumble didn't happen.

His resume shows he was creative enough offensively to lead the most prolific offense in NFL history (1 missed FG away from a SB). It also shows that he was a good enough HC to completely shift gears and create a SB winner around a great defense and a game manager. His resume prior to that and his statements after it do not suggest this is his preferred route, but it's one he will take if he has to and be somewhat successful at it.

I think I really like the Billick idea.

Which means it will never happen. The Chiefs don't hate everyone...but they sure seem to hate me.

So, take your pick.

Cowher or Billick?

DeezNutz 12-31-2012 03:11 PM

Absolute hypocrisy to be cool with Billick but anti-Cowher.

From that interview, Cowher seems like the exact guy Clark just described as what he wants.

No question that Cowher is high up on the list.

HENCE THE CHANGE IN STRUCTURE. He doesnt want another Todd Haley/Pioli mess that leaves Clark looking like the bad guy.

That's what Clark essentially said, had Haley reported to Clark, things might be different today.

He basically said that he might have gotten rid of Pioli sooner if he had been more involved.

It was an admission of guilt IMO...as well as acknowledging that Todd Haley would probably still be here if Clark had an open door policy.

I'm sorry, but I really don't want Billick. No ****ing thank you. Underperforming, no QB-having **** whose success was too often schedule driven.

In other words, he sounds like perfect KC material.

Totally agree.

How long did Brian Billick give Kyle Boller? Whats the difference between how he handled Boller and how Pioli handled Cassel?

Yes. Eagles did too.

Its clear as day that Clark is talking to guys that have a proven track record and are respected enough to demand coach and personnel control.

The only three guys that make sense are Reid, Cowher or Billick.

I might get crucified I don't know. what does everyone think of Bruce Arians? The guy is an offensive guy, and proved this year in pagano's absence he can coach a winning football team. I dont know many details on the guy other than the basics. Figure somebody on here could at least tell me why its a bad idea.

@SOC just dropped quite a bomb

Strongside 12-31-2012 03:13 PM

I think DaBoll deserves a shot...

...to the nuts.

DeezNutz 12-31-2012 03:14 PM

I am dumbfounded by the Billick love. The same coach who eagerly welcomed Grbac to Baltimore?

We're really going to point to late-90s success as an OC with incredible weapons in MINN?

Not on this you haven't. You just contradicted yourself. Is it the QB or the defense that makes the coach?

OnTheWarpath15 12-31-2012 03:14 PM

The same bomb that was dropped here earlier in this thread.

Yup, he won with defensive minds. I don't get it either.

According to Chris Hanson of NFLN, Pioli's buyout is $7.5M.

Christ, Clark, you wasted that much money on half a season of Stanford Routt.

Pull the ****ing trigger and be done with it.

Jesus, he'll spend half of that in legal fees.
