Still no word on what the guy said?

Mine would be Embiid for the enormous impact he's had when he's actually in, but I think Wiggins would actually be the favorite to win it if they did the voting right now...especially the way he's progressed in conference play. Kane or Ejim would probably be right there as well. Smart (especially now) and Staten probably don't stand a chance due to their teams' lack of success.

At this point I'd think it's down to Staten vs. Ejim...

noa 02-09-2014 09:24 AM

Didn't seem like anyone around the fan reacted like he said something racist, other than Smart. Obviously, I wasn't there. Also, I think fans going after EJ were pissed about how he ended the game, but here, there was no motivation for the guy to be upset with Smart. Smart was trying to make a play to save the game for Okie State. Which, by the way, makes the technical even that more stupid because the game was still in play.

Prison Bitch 02-09-2014 09:45 AM

Ejim is obv POY as of today.

I disagree ejim isn't even there best player. He has one monster game and now he's poy?

We was leading scorer (and up there in rebounds too) in the conference even before yesterday.

I took what Tomahawk posted as he managed to dig up what he said. Could be wrong though.

I'd agree and I'd probably add Stanten in there because he's consistent and he's so much of WV output. But I don't think it will end up that way, unless they put far more stock than usual on winning the conference (which isn't sewn up yet). My money is on Ejim.

He will probably go ahead of Embiid and Wiggins in the draft. /Krusty

I have a hard time believing the fan said the N word. I'm sure he said something, but I just can't believe he said that. Just my opinion.

Why do you think it's hard to believe a bumpkin from BFE Texas said the N word?

Silock 02-09-2014 11:43 AM

I don't have a hard time believing it. I just haven't seen any proof that he DID.

Prison Bitch 02-09-2014 11:46 AM

It's highly doubtful the guy actually dropped the N bomb in such a crowded place. It's the standard cop-out for every black athlete everytime he blows up at a fan.

Not sure I follow what you're saying. You've acknowledged that it is completely unacceptable, he should be punished, he's facing the same environment that everyone else is, and you still think it matters what was said.

You'd have to not be living in the same world I am to not think it matters what was said. If this guy said a racial slur to him (as is being alleged), it completely changes how the situation is perceived and the level of outrage about it. Also notice how this has been the main point of contention in this thread and in the media.

It doesn't. It's not about the fan getting hurt. I wouldn't piss on the guy if he were on fire. This is about the remarkable fall from grace that Smart is going through. Last year the dude was fairly untouchable. He beat a really good KU team in AFH by himself basically, he was a lock for the lottery, and after he came back, he was thought to have his team in the hunt for a title, if he showed progress at all he should be the best player in the nation by a mile, and should be a lock for top 5. Now, he's 4-6 in conference, not shooting well, not playing to the level he was last year, has a reputation as a flopper rather than just being more clutch and athletic than everyone on the floor and now he goes after a fan? That is a significant role reversal. And just Smart gets all the credit for OSU success, justly or unjustly, he's going to get credit for the failures.
Smart has been a top 3 player in the B12 by the numbers (KenPom ranks the top 5 as Embiid, Smart, Wiggins, Ejim, and Kane currently for reference) . He's going to be a top 10 pick in the NBA draft in about 5 months. And a few short months after that, he's going to be starting for a NBA team and making millions doing it. Fall from grace? By this time next year, this situation and his team's shitty season (which really isn't his fault at all, he's playing better than last year) will be long gone in everyone's minds beyond those who hold a grudge.

Quote:

If he were a hawk we'd all love him. He'll his situation is not completely unlike Brandon Rush. Fact is though he's not a hawk, he plays in conference and the dude isn't untouchable like he was last year.
Jayhawk or not, I love him as a player regardless. I suspect he'll be one of my favorites in the league for years.

Yeap, every time. Like that one time Artest blew up and then the time...

How many times exactly have black athletes blown up on fans, my dear?

And Artest went after a guy because they threw a drink at him. Pretty sure he got the wrong guy too. LMAO
