I've been laid off twice in the last 4yrs. once because the company went bankrupt and closed the office completely out of the blue. the 2nd because we didn't get the anticipated $50M in contracs from the EPA we expected. and in project based environments, when them PGM/Margin is eroding, the first thing they cut is expenses. and you're an expense, not an asset.

oh well. I hated that job anyway, so while nervous about getting laid off, I was relieved. I dreaded every day of that job.

I too have wondered if being fired would be horrible on your resume.

One of my best friends is a comm major who did his job well, but the company was small and needed a more experience guy. Only there 3 months in his first job out of school. Now he's been 4 months without any luck and I'm not sure what to tell him.

It's brutal out there.

How did the firing go? You got the taste of blood now. Who's next? :p

Thanks for asking. I took all of the advice. Made it quick and just delivered the news, let it sink in for a few seconds, then gave him a short insight into the decision. Had my govt customer clear the office so he could collect his belongings and walked him out. He had a clue it was coming but was disappointed. Nice guy, but he couldn't cut it. Other employees thanked me afterward.

Most large corporations HR depts will only verify dates of employment. I don't even think they can say if "person A" was "fired/terminated" or not...just verify dates of employment.
