Not entirely true. Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky, and especially Death Grips all put on amazing shows in the same environment. I've seen some terrible hip-hop, but good energy from the artist and a good crowd can go a long way.

Hey, remember when that guy said Macklemore was better than Kanye??

You're comparing a flavor of the month to two rappers who have stood the test of time. While I think Macklamore is interesting, his staying power is completely unproven.

Wow some strong hate for Macklemore here.

I actually think he's fairly good. I'll wait for another album to make any long term decision. But going back to some of his older stuff too, its pretty good.

I wouldn't call what I said hate for Macklemore. If anything it was criticism of the tendency to take some newly popular artist and pretend that they have skills and abilities heretofore unseen and unknown in the genre. This tendency usually demonstrates ignorance of the genre on the part of the person making the claim.

See Mumford and Sons as another example. "Dude. He's such an awesome banjo player."

Was thinking about checking this kid out in Austin. Only problem is that the headliner is Mac Miller.ROFL. I'll pass on that crowd.

Yeah. That being said, Mac's latest album shows some growth. Still not crazy about him, but he's improving.

This album is TRASH.
If you saw the SNL performance, you've heard the album.
"New Slaves" and "Black Skinhead" are the best two songs from the project.

Never really listened to Mac Miller before this album he just put out, but it's not that bad.

Personally, I like the album. Black skinhead, I'm in it, guilt trip, bound 2, are the standouts for me.

NewChief 06-26-2013 12:56 PM

On the second listen of "Run the Jewels." It's no surprise to me that in a week of a ton of hyped hiphop releases (Mac Miller, J Cole, and Kanye) the best album gets released to very little fanfare. It's not groundbreaking or experimental like Yeezus, but it's freaking awesome. If you've listened to Cancer for Cure or R.A.P. Music, then you probably know what to expect. You won't be disappointed. These guys love working together, and it comes through in the music.
