I dont think there is any point to it other then, they can do it, because they can. Also in God of War 2, there is a small sex part, but then it ends and never again. The way to beat it is to bust a nut or make the girls bust a nut. haha

have God of War Chains of Olympus on the PSP. This game is insanely fun. What the hell is the point of the sex minigame though?

Every GOW game has had a sex minigame. There never is any real point, but you do get EXP Orbs.

It says there are no updates available at this time for me.

And I am still on 2.36

So..... ROFL

As we've already reported, SCEA has removed firmware 2.40, released early this morning, from its update servers. Users attempting to use the System Update feature from the PS3 XMB from firmware prior to 2.40 are now being told that their software is up to date.

This action follows a large number of reports on the official PlayStation message boards of the update adversely affecting users' systems. The most widely noted problem is systems simply failing to reach the XMB upon booting, instead getting stuck on a screen with only the familiar "wave" background displayed.

Some posters have reported that removing the PS3 hard disk, formatting it via a PC, then re-inserting it allows the PS3 to boot properly ... with the obvious drawback of losing everything – profiles, saves, DLC, etc. – that was on the drive.

Joystiq contacted SCEA for comment on the situation as was told by PR director Patrick Seybold that they are aware of the message thread and that they are "looking into it right now and will work with those customers directly to address any issues they may be experiencing." This comment came before the update was removed from Sony's servers. We're seeking further comment and will update as we receive it.

Wow...Sony Just ****ed Up.

Mine was working great last night. Thats weird. If I already DL'd 2.4 will I still have it when I go home tonight?

If it started up for you once, then you are probably OK.

I only laugh because of all the crap M$ took over their updates. My first update on PS3 and this happens. ROFL

Good thing I chose to wait and not jump all over it like tons of others did.

Buck 07-02-2008 04:41 PM

No, sony really ****ed up. They are going to have to replace A Billion Dollars worth of Hardware.

On top of the money lost on the PS3 So Far.

They will be the laughing stock of E3.

EDIT: Well I guess not that many people had a chance to DL so it wont be a billion, maybe $100K

They are already having people with out of warranty systems fork over the $150 to get it fixed. Thats laughable. The fact that their Terms of Service excludes care if firmware screws up your system is just plain wrong.

There is a workaround if you want to take out your HDD and format it on your computer. That shouldn't be necessary either though.

I miss the old days when firmware was not even needed.

Yeah, they just took 2 steps backwards for sure.

It almost makes you wonder about the $150 fee for fixing it.

Still working fine for me.

I wonder how many of the people complaining on the PS3 forum were just trolls. This is the kinda thing that would make a pretty good gag.

007 07-02-2008 05:33 PM

I doubt that is the case. No reason for Sony to pull the update if that were the case.

Better safe than sorry though. Quite a few were posting youtube videos showing what the update did.

Games were a crapload more expensive back then, too, now that you think about it. I remember SNES games were around 40-60 bucks, sometimes 70. That was back in early to mid 90's.

N64 games were brutal that way.

Kinda stupid question but whats the best way to clean the exterior of the playstation 3? Its made of the same material as my alienware computer and I need a good cleaner that doesnt leave streaks. Just bought my PS3 and I like it alot more than the Wii just in terms of games. It feels like a more complete system and throws out more great games that dont rely so much on multiplayer emphasis to have fun.

To clean mine I blow off all the excess dust first w/ canned air, then I use the little cloth that I have to clean off my LCD screen to wipe clean.

Gravedigger 07-05-2008 05:46 PM

Thanks, I use a white Tshirt most of the time to clean it.

TinyEvel 07-06-2008 03:15 PM

Yeah. I just use a damp cloth. No solvents or cleaners or anything like that. I use the vacuum cleaner hose brush attachmnt on the vents once a month.

15 years ago $50 was more money than it is now, and that was just for most games. Larger games, like RPG's, were more, sometimes 69.99. I remember buying Super Mario RPG new at Toys R Us for 69.99

You can now link your PSN account to Playstation.com, giving you similar functionality as 360 owners have with Xbox.com

http://www.us.playstation.com/

Towards the top, click the Link your IDs Today button and go from there.

I thought the 2.40 update was a bit of a letdown, but this is a great step forward.

Overpriced. Just like Xbox. Don't know why they can't compete with Netflix and offer some kind of subscription rental setup. $10 per month for SD only content and $15 for all content.

Sony got scooped by XBrick and Netflix. A monthly subscription fee for content is the way to go as opposed to pay per rental. Furthermore with their ambitions toward blu-ray they should be doing what they can to muscle studios and production cos into bringing down the MSRP of a blu-ray closer to the neighborhood of a DVD. No question, if you have the tv for it blu-ray walks all over other forms of media. My wife's only input (I fence sat for a long time on PS3 v. Xbrick) was that she wanted the blu-ray. She's a value gal and if I thought all else was equal then let's go Sony.

She enjoys the Wii but the fact I'm so COD4 crazy drives her a little nuts. I'm hoping LBP and some other titles bring her around to the coolness of core games.

If you want free job research let me know and I'll lay out my long winded impressions.

Buck 07-17-2008 09:59 AM

It sucks that you can only Rent HD Content.

I think they did that because they are backing Blu-Ray hardcore.

The XBox video system is ok, but not great. It is just the "Watch now" library which pretty much sucks and it is 480p.

Agreed. There are still plenty of ways ps3 can outpace Xbox in the coming years. However, for the average Joe out there who has played with his/her wii and thinks he/she may want to check out something else having a brand like Netflix available grabs attention.

Wii did a magnificent job of market penetration into new demographics now it is up to ps3/xbox to capitalize on that success and bring some of those folks into the higher end game market. Having names like Netflix available makes folks feel comfortable because they're already familiar with the brand, hell they probably already subscribe to it. "And what? That subscription works for my online que as well? Awesome." Then they buy the xbox and realize they have to fork out an additional $50/yr for gold.

Right now I've got a lot of "threads running through the old duder's head. Lotta things to keep straight."

I guess, ultimately, there seems to be a broad swath of untapped potential. The video game market has been opened up a bit further by Nintendo and kudos to them. Companies now have to keep that audience and nurture it along.

all of the online rentals, xbox, ps3, movielink, and others charge too much for rentals. Plus the 24 hour window to watch is just asinine. Nobody is even trying to challenge the brick and mortar method other than Netflix.

Netflix is great but the watch online content is not that great. I would definitely not subscribe to Live for that.

Have you tried it? The picture quality is nowhere near the DVD Quality they advertise. I can't imagine how horrid it would look on an HDTV.

It's not bad when you have a good internet connection. They are supposed to lock in at 480p with the XBox360.

If they lock it at 480p then it might not be too bad. I have the 1.5 speed that supposedly gets me 480p and above but I still get the poor quality feed.

If they lock it in then I might be able to deal with it.

I don't buy many games because I am very particular about what I like... but this game was WELL worth it. FAR better than that waste of time GTA4. More engaging and put together better. Just be warned it is more of a 50 hour movie than a game.

Also... if any of you use your XBOX as a media center extender and you want to try the Netflix on line service you can download the app from the following:

Works pretty well for me, but the movie selction is pretty marginal.

In my case, it took me around 14-15 hours to beat the game, and about half of it was watching cutscenes.

Even so, it's definitely worth playing.

1 thing i have to know, what the **** is up with the crazy commercials in the game? I dont know what the hell the girl cracking 2 eggs in a frying pan was for. I was like ughh, wtf?

I'm halfway through Act 4 and I'm already committed to playing it again...immediately. I didn't think anything could get me off of COD4 for an extended period but here I am, thank you Kojima-san for substituting a new addiction for an old. I'll definitely go back to COD4 at some point but right now I'm all about Snake.

The horsepower of the PS3 is nuts. My wife keeps watching the cut scenes with me and making fun of how cheesy it is but she can't deny the coolitude that is MGS4 visuals.

**game note. For those who don't know, and there may be a few, during a cut scene Snake will drop his cigarette while talking to Naomi...press L1 while he reaches for it and thank me later. The icon won't pop up, it's a hidden little deal Kojima put in there. Trust me...it's there.

I'm not sure if BuckinKaeding is starting an Online Dynasty for NCAA 09 or not, but I'd like to get one started. If anyone is interested, send me a PM or respond on this thread.

Just downloaded the Rocketmen demo at 125mb. Installed it. Then it needed to download an update that is 128mb. WTF is up with that?

FYI - I updated to firmware 2.42 last night and played several hours of MGS4. No problems.
