Stanzi played in a high-profile program in college. He's not some diamond in the rough. Every scout in the NFL knows exactly what he can do, and every team passed on him at least 4 times.

I understand the "Let's see what he's got" mentality, but the fact is that the coaches already have a pretty good idea what he's got. They obviously don't think he's the guy.

Again, yes Stanzi is a fifth round pick; Cassel was barely a seventh and Failco was undrafted. If we are going to throw out the draft pick status then again Stanzi should be starting. I don't know of anyone that is claiming he'll be Brady v2.0. But he should according to the scout's evaluations be the best QB we have on the roster.

As far as I understand it....if he doesn't report....he doesn't get paid. He would still be a FA next year.....he just wouldn't get the rest of the money that was on his contract.

If I was Haley.....Stanzi would have gotten the start after Cassel went down. Palko is shit. He's proven that he doesn't have it and the probably never will.

Also, if you want to go back 15 years, there was this guy named Kurt Warner who debuted in 1998 with the shiny draft round pick of.... Oh wait, he wasnt.

And there's like a whopping 6% chance that that 1st round QB you picked will win something significant in his career.

HOLY SHIT! 5% is too much to lose out on to not look at a kid when you have no reason not to.

pr_capone 11-23-2011 02:58 PM

Can we get a ruling from one of the Waiver Wire Gurus here?

If he doesn't report, does he just forefit the rest of his contract or would it be a Plummer like situation where we would own his ass until he reported or was traded?

The fact that Tom Brady happened makes it WORTH giving him playing time.

He's a 5th round pick, which all but guarantees he won't amount to anything. It wouldn't matter what position he played - 5th round picks have a low probability of panning out. Which means you have NOTHING to lose by playing him. If he flops, it's expected. And if he lights it up, you win big for cheap.

Pretty sure he becomes a UFA at the end of the season no matter the situation.

And I've already stated that that is what I wanted from the beginning. Shit....I would have rather given playing time to Stanzi instead of Cassel.

I'm just tired of the group of people who think that every QB is the next Tom Brady because we drafted him in the 5th round.

The Chiefs are not going to get much for a player who plays 6 games. Maybe if he gets a monster contract next season. But who's going to give KO a monster contract?

There would be consequences if he refuses to play for the Chiefs or any other team. For starters, he’d forfeit the balance of his $4.5 million salary in 2011. Also, he’d be subject to an attack on any remaining signing bonus allocation for 2011.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, Orton could jeopardize his shot at free agency in 2012.

As best we currently understand the rules, the Chiefs would be able to send Orton a five-day letter, if he doesn’t show. And if within five days after getting the letter he still doesn’t arrive, the Chiefs can put him on the reserve/left squad list, which would shut Orton down for the rest of the year.

Whether we claim him or not there will be bitching.

I am conflicted myself.

Claim him shows we aren't giving up (Haley is scared for his job probably) on the season just yet. Players like Bowe, Breaston, and Baldwin would appreciate the effort.

We don't claim him maybe we plan to see what the kid can do if Palko continues to stink (I hope).
