You're a postwhore in this thread and I know that'll eat your ass up, but if Kahne is the "worst driver ever" in the 5 and "he's already out of the Chase" than you should have little trouble standing by your expert prognostications for the 5 team this year.

Kahne is having some very bad luck, 29th at Daytona (accident), 34th at Phoenix, 19th at Las Vegas & 37th today. Isn't his spotter his brother? Kinda funny if you ask me. IMO his spotter made a bad call, plain and simple. Too bad Carl was involved, but my 2nd fav driver is Keselowski. Next week I'll be at the Fontana race, I'll try to post some pics.

You don't need some guys that use to be part of NASCAR "behind the scenes" to see the doughnut hole on the side of Junior's car to paint the picture.............working set of eyeballs and DW saying 15 seconds after it happened "Jeff's tire had to have gotten into the exhaust pipes on Junior's car for that tire to get cut down that fast" to know what happened. I think a lot of people in this thread (the ones that post 5 times per page) just want to show everyone what a NASCAR expert they are or how "plugged in" they are. Too bad the Chief's game threads don't get the real-time expert insight that this thread does. Could really bring a lot to the game watching experience!!!

We're not sure if it was illegal this time. Nascar never sent it through tech. They unloaded it off the truck and Nascar said it was illegal.

Basically what happened was Nascar saw the S/N's on the car matched the one at Talledega when Knaus told JJ to put it into the wall after the race if they won.

It is dumb they kept the $100K fine in it after they over-turned the ruling. They cheated or they didn't. This "we think there was some intent BS" is more like the guy hearing the appeal was just trying to save NASCAR some face. They did say he is paid $1 a year so maybe dude just needed some lunch money?

Why second thought? Dale Jr.........has been since 98. Mainly because he was just a cool dude to me (we are about the same age) and didn't seem to let him being "Little E" overwhelm him publicly. The way he carried on after his Dad died was just amazing to me. We now know what a toll it took on him (as it would anyone) to lose his father, but to be reminded of it every day and turn into the man and person he is today is something to be admired.

I hear people talk shit about him all the time and ask when is he gonna win again, blah, blah. etc, but I don't care. He's my guy and it won't change just like I'll never pick up another team/school because the Royals, Chiefs, or K-State is having a shit as year.........or decades in the case of the Chiefs and Royals!! :)

what equipment? he is called: "gas can man" :D

How many members are on a Nascar pit crew?

Six
Pit crew members were once the mechanics on the racecar, but most teams feature individuals dedicated to pit stops only. Although, most of the time, pit crew members work with the team in fabricating or designing the race cars during the week while training for their "pit job" on the weekends. The crew chief is the head person on a pit crew and assigns a Pit Crew Coach to help coordinate the pit stops and train the pit crew members how to stay in good physical shape. NASCAR regulations dictate that only six individuals can go "over the wall" to service a racecar during a pit stop.

Thus, the active pit crew for a NASCAR pit stop is comprised of:

The jackman: jacks up the car so that the tires can be replaced. The jackman will, also, usually pull the old right rear tire off of the car after the rear tire changer loosens the lug nuts. This is to help get the new right rear tire on faster. The jackman is the one who signals for the driver to leave the pits by dropping the jack.

* The front tire changer: changes only the front tires with air wrench.

* The rear tire changer: changes only rear tires with air wrench.

* The gas man: fills the car with gasoline with a special gas can. The gas man may, also, help pull old tires off of race car after lug nuts are loosened if the car does not need fuel or if the car needs little fuel and the gas man finishes his job before any one else.

* Front tire carrier: brings the new front replacement tires over the pit wall and guides them onto the studs. He, also, rolls the old front tires to the pit wall after the front tire changer pulls them off of the car. The front tire carrier is usually responsible for clearing debris off of the grill of a racecar and/or pulling the front fenders away from the tire if necessary. He may also be responsible for adding tape to the grill during a pit stop for more front-end downforce.

* Rear tire carrier: responsible for bringing new rear tires over the pit wall. Typically, on the side of the car furthest from the pit wall, he will be responsible for guiding the new tire onto the studs, making any necessary adjustments to the rear track bar and/or wedge, and rolling the old tire back to the pit wall. On the side of the car closest to the pit wall, he is usually responsible for only sliding the new tire onto the studs.

A seventh man is allowed over the wall, usually to clean the windshield, and in some situations, is permitted to attach extra dark shields to assist as the sun begins to set. Races in Atlanta Motor Speedway, and in the past, Homestead Miami Speedway, North Carolina Speedway, and Phoenix International Raceway, were known where the setting sun would lead to glare issues on the cars.

While I was happy that Tony won, I do feel bad for the fans getting shortchanged by the rain. Glad to hear you still had a good time.

CaliforniaChief 03-25-2012 08:28 PM

I just got back from the race. Going to races is ALWAYS fun, but I have to say that today was definitely a downer. All green flag racing? It was so obvious to me that NASCAR knew there was absolutely NO WAY they were going to finish the race, so they half-assed it just to get it off the calendar.

I get it, though. California is rarely an interesting race, and the viewership/attendance has steadily declined. I wish they just would have waited until tomorrow and run the whole thing. But I'm just a fan who had a day off tomorrow, too. :D

I don't think that track normally produces very many cautions anyway. It's big and wide enough that contact is pretty minimal and there's plenty of room to pass. I bet the drivers love it though.

True. But I would be they would have manufactured a few of those "debris cautions" like they do most other races.

And you're right, it's wide open...5 wide at points.

Bugeater 03-25-2012 08:46 PM

Had a chance to meet him up close last weekend and was really impressed. Only active driver with a college degree. Also seems humble and does some great things off the track.
