Let me understand this...you are rooting against the Cubs because they "bought" their success?

I want the Dodgers to win for Kershaw and Scully, don't have anything against the Cubs taking it all though.

Why Not? 10-19-2016 12:27 AM

I love Zobrist(obviously), and Bryant is a pleasure to watch, and I think Maddon is a great manager. But I am pulling for the Dodgers/Indians because the baseball world as I know it will forever be altered if the Cubs actually win a series. There has to be a loveable loser. A perennial "wait 'til next year", a red headed stepchild. Who would fill that role? The Indians? Nobody cares about them, not even most of Cleveland. The Mariners? Yawn. Who? No, the Cubs need to lose so order stays restored in the baseball universe.

Edit: except if the Jays pull the miracle and make the WS(not gonna happen, Indians in 6)then, forget everything I just typed and go Cubs!

Mariners or Nationals.

Neither team has even been to a WS yet. Nationals would probably better fit the mold because they have the same choke mentality in the playoffs that the Cubs have had. The Mariners on the other hand aren't very good a majority of the time.

I'm not a Cubs fan, but Scottsdale 2018 is my future.

Right, which is why I acknowledged that they do have the fifth highest payroll in baseball. While they do have significant capital, I think it's pretty disingenuous to say they bought their way there when the centerpieces of their roster are homegrown.

The Cubs seem like a high payroll team because of the Lester and Heyward signings. However, they have a TON of cost controlled talent. Once those guys come up for a contract, they will need to become a high payroll club and have the ability to do so.

To be fair, I don't know if the numbers on that site are completely accurate. For example, it has the Royals about 25 million under their reported payroll at the start of the year.

This site has the Cubs and Royals much higher, with the Cubs coming in at #5 in the league.
