I'm pretty sure the medically questionable Royals player was the blue chip in the deal...Tim Collins
|
With what the Astros gave up for Kazmir I am not worried that we are going to give up too much.

[QUOTE=tk13;11618644]It's not just being results oriented, it's looking at history. Ventura pitched like a #1 starter in the playoffs last year. And Shields at least grinded out a couple wins. You'd be hard pressed to find a recent champion who had a bunch of average starters. We've been debating this for weeks and still no one can give an example. You don't need an All Star rotation but you need a Bumgarner, or Lester, or Carpenter, or Beckett. Pretty much every winner in the last 15 years had an All Star ace. Except maybe the 2005 White Sox, and they had four starters pitching lights out.
Maybe Duffy is about to be that guy. It's very possible, but we still don't know for sure yet.[/QUOTE Yep, you need an "Ace" that the other team doesnt want to face, once, let alone twice. We have none on the roster at this point. Lets get it done! |
Hmm...

How likely is it that the Reds "failed" a player's medical as a negotiating tactic to ask for a better package of players?

I worked for a brief time for the company that holds all the NFL teams medical info. That company has more on line security than the NSA. When a trade is proposed, or made, they electronically move all medical info from one team to the other. It's a really incredible setup. |
Don't mean to derail the trade talk conversations but wanted to post this..
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/escobar...4180--mlb.html Read this from the link above.....at the bottom: "DAVIS JOINS O'BRIEN Royals RHP Wade Davis threw his fifth scoreless outing since the All-Star break to lower his ERA to 0.43. He is the second pitcher in big league history to record an ERA below 0.50 after 40 innings, joining Red Sox pitcher Buck O'Brien, 0.38 in 1911." Every time I watch Davis pitch he is just overpowering....it's almost as if he is making the batters look like HS players. And people sometimes forget he was the "other" player in the Shields-for-Will Meyers trade. |

Until then, it's a world that trades in hypotheticals and supposition. Who knows what the Reds ultimate intentions are exactly. I wouldn't be so much worried about us figuring out an alternative trade if we were operating within a vacuum. It's the fact that a failed trade leaked, putting the rest of the teams on notice. So, we lay in wait in the danger zone of someone else coming in at the 11th hour and getting Cueto while leaving us standing around with our dick in hand. |

Anyone getting flashbacks of Emmanuel Sanders aquisition with Cueto? Totally different situations, but we were *this* close to getting Sanders and apparently we were *this* close to getting Cueto.
