There can be embellishment on something that should have been called... he could have done the same kind of flail/swan dive had he been tripped, and both should be called. If someone takes a high stick and acts throws their arms around while doing a triple salchow, the high stick should still be called.

This wasn't embellishment though, it was a dive... and a pretty clear one, too.... but, NHL rules say you have to call both regardless, which is dumb. Get that shit out of the game by just calling the dive.

Tonight, I literally had flashbacks to the Chiefs/Colts playoff game in January.
I was not in a good place for the final 10 minutes.

Still can't believe we did that. Between that, DTs death, 2-14 '12 I'm a miserable NFL fan.

I was thinking strictly in terms of a tripping/dive, but maybe I'm just not giving enough artistic freedom to floppers. Just seems unnecessary in a legitimate tripping situation. Well, it's always unnecessary, but you know what I mean...

As someone who hasn't watched a full hockey game in well over 5 years, there really isn't anything as intense as playoff hockey late in a series. Just incredible.

I see why players are tempted to do it when they (at least think) they aren't getting calls, so they eventually try to sell one so the refs will take notice. Still don't like it though, and of course that wasn't what Benoit was doing.

CaliforniaChief 04-28-2014 09:29 PM

Kings killed it...then SJ ties it on a deflection. 1-1.

Bearcat 04-28-2014 09:29 PM

Time to pull Varlamov and get this done.

lewdog 04-28-2014 09:31 PM

That insane how you move your stick to a moving puck in the air like that!

DaFace 04-28-2014 09:33 PM

The Wild fans want a penalty about every 30 seconds.

Random story..... I couldn't hit a baseball to save my life and I played for like 10 years when I was a kid... a year or two of skating around with a few others though, and I could tip just about any puck. It's like the one athletic skill I have, apparently.
