The Schrödinger Scoop... it's simultaneously 'look-at-me' insider information and complete bullshit until/if it gets called out.

The problem with putting completely unverified stuff out there is people on this board read it, believe it, and absorb it. And it’ll be next off-season and we’ll be talking about CJ again and half of CP will be saying “And we offered this ****ing guy 30mm/yr and he turned it down” just because this was put out into the world based on what one person may have heard while drunk listening to TV at a bar.

What’s more likely: it was misheard and then very, very casually misreported by BRC or he heard it right and it just hasn’t been picked up by any internet content providers who are starved for these sorts of details?

Oh, and he says the source was legit but he has no idea who the reporter was? Okay.

You can take information drunkenly gleaned by BRC from a bar TV to the (Silicon Valley) Bank!!

It's not that simple. If you sign Jones for $31 mill a year, it is hard to keep good young talent around him. If he defies the odds(and if anyone can, I think it would be him) and continues to play at a high level, it would be money well spent, but if he doesn't and becomes like 75% of those over 30 who decline quickly, it handicaps us greatly. Veach knows this, and its painful to make these choices, but he is mostly likely giving Jones a fair deal ($26-$27m/$70mil guaranteed) and he won't move from that... It's up to Jones to decide how this moves forward. It should be an easy decision for him, but pride seems to be getting in the way.

No disagreements from me. Just the comparisons to the Tyreek situation need to stop as they are not even remotely close. KC can far more afford to lose Tyreek than Jones. While Jones is critical to the defense, both sides need to be reasonable regarding his contract.

There’s nothing the Chiefs can do, really — paying over $30 million doesn’t seem like a good idea, and at that price, he’s most likely untradable. At this point, the Chiefs probably should let him explore trade options to show him and his agent that he won’t find a team out there that will give up draft picks and give him north of $30 million. And if some team does, you trade him.

Orlando Brown and his agent thought the Chiefs were lowballing them and ****ed around and found out.

I just don’t get the risk / return here from Chris Jones point of view — unless the Chiefs offer is a lot less than the media intimating it is.

Megatron96 08-12-2023 01:58 PM

No one knows exactly what the offer was. We don't know if it was for $26 million or $30 million. I think all we know is that Beach made him an offer that he refused, right?

Which is SOP for salary negotiations anyway. Never take the first offer.

We are maxed out on the cap. We spent the extra money that Mahomes and Kelce gave up. If the numbers above are true, they have no reason to be pissed off at the Chiefs.

A legit ESPN reporter.

So legit that you don't even know there name?

Why haven't I seen this reported anywhere? I figure Twitter would blow up to this report.

You're obviously misremembering. Also I've never heard a word that was said on tv at a bar.

BossChief 08-12-2023 02:42 PM

That Twitter post was obviously in jest. Look at the second picture.

To me, it sounds like he was playing a role in a movie and they’re trolling.

Wow! Ya think? Glad you cleared that up.

FloridaMan88 08-12-2023 03:25 PM

Carl would’ve had Rufus Dawes hunt down Chris Jones’ agent with a cattle prodder.

At least Veach is doing his best not to get dragged into the back and forth bullshit.

I don’t hold my liquor as well as I did. Getting older sucks. Having a 65% hearing loss probably didn’t help.
