Yes, but Duffy can go 2-3 and he's a different type of pitcher than another soft-tossing righty.

I'd personally rather use Duffy for two outs and two or three innings than Herrera for three nights in a row (potentially).

This, and the mistake wasn't bringing Duffy in, it was pinch hitting him with a 20 year old rookie that hit .220 in AA ball instead of letting him go moar innings.

Because bringing in a pitcher to face a pitcher and go 10 pitches before pinch hitting him for someone in AA makes no sense. If he sucks, then leave in Ventura to face the pitcher.

Because we have games the next two nights. You use Hoch for 2 tonight and he's probably out tomorrow. Now you can pitch him if you need him.

Even if Hoch gets through the 6th, who do you bring out for the 7th? Morales was probably pitching at some point tonight. This is what happens when your starter can't get deep enough into the game. Somebody has to cover all those outs.

I am actually the opposite of everyone on here... I wonder if it would've been better just to burn Medlen tonight and try and keep the pen fresh for tomorrow. Even pitching Duffy and Hoch for two a piece doesn't get you through this game.

Apparently you don't understand the definition of a sunk cost. Bringing in Herrera when down five is throwing good money after bad. Yes, you ideally don't take Duffy out there (he shouldn't have been in yet, anyway), but given that he has already been used and that this game is effectively out of reach, why use Herrera there knowing who is starting tomorrow and what he did on Tuesday?

He had a below average year, he's had a terrible postseason, and he's been known to be a bit of a head-case. He's arguably the worst pitcher on the postseason roster. Taking him out of the game was not a big deal.
