Apparently you don't understand the definition of a sunk cost. Bringing in Herrera when down five is throwing good money after bad. Yes, you ideally don't take Duffy out there (he shouldn't have been in yet, anyway), but given that he has already been used and that this game is effectively out of reach, why use Herrera there knowing who is starting tomorrow and what he did on Tuesday?

Nobody disagrees with your sunk cost point.
Duffy was brought in at a critical point where Ventura was imploding. He did a great job getting out of the inning without additional damage. He should've pitched a few moar innings (I think we agree that he shouldn't have been pinch hit for even if we disagree with the call to bring him into the game).
Medlen is being saved for tomorrow night. If CY isn't on his game I'd expect a quick hook with Medlen coming into throw 3+ innings.
