Running back Priest Holmes, 32, is likely to miss the rest of the season, a source close to the situation told ESPN.com's John Clayton.

Holmes will continue to undergo tests on his neck and shoulder, but the source said his injuries are not believed to be career-ending.

Chiefs spokesman Pete Moris on Wednesday denied a Kansas City television report that Holmes had possibly played his last game for the Chiefs and could announce his retirement as soon as Thursday.

Holmes did not play last Sunday in the Chiefs' second game this season with Oakland, and Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil said Tuesday that Holmes was undergoing a battery of tests to make sure he's neurologically sound after Holmes suffered a concussion two Sundays ago against San Diego. Holmes also is suffering from the aftereffects of a shoulder injury from the first Oakland game in September.

Vermeil is expected to update Holmes' status at his normal Wednesday news conference at 5 p.m. ET.

I think I may go home for lunch and watch a soap opera, so I can feel like I'm on the planet reading about Priest.

That would make it 3 out of the last 4 seasons.

In related news, the Chiefs have reached an agreement with Hugh Douglass to fill Priest's roster spot.

Dammit, that's gonna make it hard for us to sign TO.

Okay, Harry we can dismiss. This is cause for concern.

I am concerned about Priest's health, but my concern with the Chiefs' offense is centered more around Willie Roaf.

Finally a reputable source.

My prediction is that DV will say today that he's doubtful for this week pending more evaluation of the injury, and then sometime in the next week or two he goes on IR.

This could have hurt a lot worse without LJ.

So far we seem to have three slightly conflicting reports:
1: Priest done forever
2: Priest done for season
3: Priest misses week 10

Nov 9 Associated Press reports Kansas City Chiefs director of public relations Bob Moore said the team will not have any updates on RB Priest Holmes (head, shoulder) until sometime Wednesday, Nov. 9. However, he noted he does not think Holmes' injury is career-ending. Moore denied a report that Holmes may retire due to a spinal injury. Holmes' agent, Todd France, was unavailable for comment, but someone within his organization disputed the report and said suggestions of Holmes retiring soon were inaccurate. However, no one is discounting the possibility Holmes may be out an extended period of time, perhaps the remainder of the 2005 season.

I'm more concerned with who'll be our 2nd RB behind LJ.

He can carry the load without missing anything, but what if he goes down?

This is where having Holcombe out for the year really, really hurts. He is a good backup FB but can also carry the rock if needed (Illinois's all-time leading rusher).

Not good, lets hope he has to just sit for awhile, we will need him, LJ its time to shine. we have no real backup rb either.
