Spinoff: Truman Sports Complex, or lack thereof

Seeing the animation of the rolling roof in ZepSinger's thread makes me wonder what the majority thinks of this issue. Are you a fan of this roof idea in general, or just to land a once-in-a-lietime chance at getting a Super Bowl in KC? Or should the complex be left alone?

Poll to follow.

BigRedChief 01-21-2006 05:08 PM

It's paid for by out of state money.

We will get $400-600 million in tourism $'s from the Super Bowl

We could get a Final Four also.

King Carl is on record saying that the Chiefs will never use the roof for their games.

Looks kind of weird but I've heard they could easily make the bottom of the top of the roof a gigantic video screen. That would be cool.

What the average fan sees of Arrowhead looks to be in good condition. It is.

The inside is past ready for a massive makeover.

Halfcan 01-21-2006 05:14 PM

The roof looks like a huge waste of $$$.

I don't think there's ever been an issue in the NFL, but this reminds me of the Astros last post season, when they wanted the roof closed but the MLB said it was too nice outside & made them leave it open. I wonder if the NFL would do the same thing... say, if it was an otherwise nice January afternoon, but it was supposed to drop into the 20s by the second half...

I don't know. I can't seem to get on board with the idea, even with the reasons you listed. I guess if I were to have a roof, I'd just as soon see it be like Reliant Stadiums' retractable roof, not just a rolling roof.

I'm all for upgrading both stadiums, because they both need it. The location of the complex makes it the perfect venue to watch sports, so I don't really want to move the Royals downtown, or see the Chiefs bolt for Wyandotte.

I'll tell you what is a kick ass venue for a football game - Lambeau Field. When they upgraded around that stadium, they did it right. I would love to see the Chiefs come up with a plan that could somewhat mirror what Green Bay did. Anyone who has seen the renovated Lambeau knows what I'm talking about, and should agree.

That may be true. Thats King Carl's end game. He knows the NFL could over rule him. But I don't think that would happen except for a playoff game.

Absolutely. Arrowhead is a credit to HoK (and I'm assuming that they are the ones who designed it). But it sorely needs to be brought up to date.

Lambeau is great, but they left the shitty benches-bad move.

Very true. AROUND the stadium is terrific, but inside sucks with all that bleacher seating. Reminds me of Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. Blech.

But the club section is ****ing fntastic.

VonneMarie 01-21-2006 05:25 PM

I'm for the rolling roof. We need change.

Logical 01-21-2006 07:31 PM

I would have voted for a new Arrowhead had you not included the stupid IMO idea of wasting money on a downtown baseball park. Do the minor upgrades to Kaufman Stadium and leave it there. There is not a nicer park for baseball viewing that has been built and wasting money on a new park for the Royals is insane.

Eleazar 01-21-2006 07:33 PM

I voted for the new stadium, but I don't think we need to move the K. Just give them a nice rennovation package.

Dunit35 01-21-2006 07:37 PM

Renovate both stadiums, but do not put a dumbass roof on them. Maybe even build a new Arrowhead, exactly the same as this one.

Hoover 01-21-2006 07:42 PM

Renovate Kaufmann and Build a new Arrowhead with retractable roof at teh current location.
