Weather could spoil my Christmas

I am working in Detroit. I have my last job tomorrow night. Then I head home, probably around 1:00a.m. I looked at the forecast and it is winter storm advisories all the way home. Snow up here, then Ice, then rain/snow mix. Supposed to be a 12 hour drive home, which would get me home around noon on Christmas Eve, which is when we are starting some Christmas activities. With that weather, God knows when i will get home.

Yea this time of year it can suck. I know the snow & crap kinda messed mine up already. Couldn't afford to fly my daughter up here from KC, and had thought of meeting her mom 1/2 way and driving her up. But with all the snow and stuff decided it wasn't worth someone having an accident. Sh*t happens, and summer not that far away. Still kinda sucks, as this is the first year in 16 that my oldest hasn't got to spend xmas with dad. :(

Hope your trip works out ok, will keep you in my prayers.

Be safe, man. I've said a prayer that you will get home in time to have a wonderful Christmas.

Thanks guys. The prayers are greatly appreciated.

Wait, do you work 12 hours from your residence or is "home" your hometown/where your family is?....

I can't answer for the man, but I once lived a three day drive from home.

I work all over. I live in SW MO. The project I am on is for McDonalds. Since I have been on this project, I have been, in order, in; Pittsburgh, PA, Buffalo, NY, Portland, OR, New Orleans west to Lafayette, LA, Detroit, MI, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, New Orleans, NY City, Syracuse, NY, and back to Detroit, since October. I have been home for a weekend between Buffalo and Portland, a few hours between Portland and New Orleans, a weekend between New Orleans and Detroit. Home for Thanksgiving for 3 days, then out to SC. Another weekend before NY City, and I have been out since then. All driving, with the exception of them flying me back from Portland to go straight to New Orleans.

The most important thing is that you get home safely.

You know, It is amazing how much better they clear the roads up here. There have been several snow storms hit since I have been up here. Every time, the roads are clear, and traffic is moving full speed within hours. It came a big storm on Saturday night. By the time I got up, the roads were fine. I drove 2 hours from Kalamazoo to Detroit. Traffic was moving 70-75 mph on I-94 the whole way.

I'm really surprised by the poor job Lincoln, NE does on their roads. I figured that being much farther north than KC they would be better. They seem to be on par with KCMO and not as good about clearing roads as Johnson County. Des Moines does a good job on their roads.

Good luck. Maybe try I-75 S to I-70 W, it might keep you on the rainy side of the storm?

DaFace 12-23-2008 02:27 PM

I'm hoping that the drive will be OK for me today. The wife and I are heading back to my parents' place in Southern KS, so we'll be headed across I-70 through the snow today. It's only supposed to be a few inches but I'm never a fan of driving across eastern Colorado with snow coming down.
