Watson, Mankins, Wilfork and Seymour to be F/A's

Another 'Patriot becoming a Chief' thread.

With Scott Pioli, Charlie Weis and (assuming) Romeo Crennel coming to Kansas City within one year, could they attract any of these four to Kansas City? All four players started their careers in New England and have been a Patriot their entire career with the exception of one. All four become free agents this year according to http://www.footballsfuture.com/freeagents.html. It wouldn't be easy to sign all of these players, but at least one, if not two, would be nice.

TE Ben Watson--Only knew Weis for a little bit, but was drafted while Pioli was in New England and they've been together for a couple years.

OL Logan Mankins--Unlike Watson, never played under Weis, but was drafted while Pioli was in New England, so I imagine that if the Chiefs make an attempt to get him, or if Mankins was interested in becoming a Chief, Pioli would be part of the reason.

DL Vince Wilfork/DL Richard Seymour (played with Oakland this year.)--Both played under Crennel and have been successful. Even though Glenn Dorsey and Tyson Jackson are younger, I would not mind seeing one of these guys (or both) be replaced. I know the Chiefs spent their first draft pick in 08/09 to grab these guys, but I would not mind if we replace Dorsey and/or Jackson with one of those two. Also, I know there are not many Mike Vrabel fans out there, but I imagine Vrabel would be better if he played with them. It was clear Vrabel wasn't thrilled to become a Chief after the success his career consisted of. But if Crennel and one of those two defensive linemen came, I would not mind seeing him stay for another year.

Again, signing all four doesn't sound realistic, but with the new staff, I'd be willing to say at least one of the four will be signed, if not, at least an attempt at getting one of the four. All four are an upgrade over what we have.

All free agents listed here are done so with an optimistic outlook that a new CBA will be agreed upon.
Well, since that's likely not happening, this thread is pointless.

Advocating replacing Dorsey AND/OR Jackson? LMAO.

KCBOSS1 01-12-2010 09:32 PM

Seymour is a beast.

Can we go ahead and replace our 2010 first round pick, too?

Dorsey was in the mix of possibly being traded this past offseason. Some people feel there was a little bit of progress was made. Jackson, well, Chiefs fans were not very thrilled about him heading into this season..

I'll gladly start Seymour over Jackson.

If Dorsey's traded, Pioli is even more blind than some anticipated. Dude could be a stud if used properly.

And, seriously, is Pioli really going to hang a sign around his neck that reads, "I'm dumb as ****." by immediately making the #3 overall pick an afterthought?

I'd rather have Seymour over Jackson, too, but, if it were up to me, the latter wouldn't be here in the first place.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I agree that replacing two first rounders is stupid. Although some saw flashes, I'd only be willing to keep Dorsey as a 4-3 DT. If the Chiefs want him as a 3-4 DE, they'd be better off getting something out of him rather than making him something he isn't.

I'll admit that I'm judging quickly about Jackson, but if anyone had to pick a player to remain a bust from this year's draft class, it would be safe to assume Jackson would receive the most votes. I still remember the Tuesday before the draft, he was not spoken about a whole lot in the top 20, if my memory serves me correctly.

"I dunno, I'd like to see Mankini in a Chiefs uni next year." "What's that? Mankins you say…" "Oh that's entirely different, so like never mind."

Wilfork, Watson and Seymour would all become free agents. The only UFAs to become RFAs are from the 2005 and 2006 drafts.

Of the three, Wilfork's the only one I want. The problem is, if no CBA is signed, New England can franchise two players and Wilfork will definitely be one of them.

We drafted Jackson. It makes zero sense not to play him.

Wilfork ain't going anywhere, I wouldn't think.
