Revis Speeding Ticket
 

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis received a citation for speeding and careless driving Thursday morning on Eisenhower Parkway. He said he was late for a meeting.

"I'm not a speedster. I was a little late for work," Revis said. "I was just trying to get to work, and you face the consequences when you speed."

The Jets cornerback won't fight the ticket, which he said was issued for doing 80 mph in a 40 mph zone. He said the officer had probable cause to pull him over, and that the officer recognized who he was but that his celebrity status shouldn't matter.

"I'm a citizen so I've got to follow the rules," Revis said. Revis said he spoke to general manager Mike Tannenbaum and coach Rex Ryan after getting the ticket. "Obviously you've got to slow down," Ryan said. "He was running late. That's not an excuse; you'd hate to see him or anybody be careless where you put yourself at risk you put others at risk, and that's a reminder for all of us."

May not be a big news story, but this seems like it happens extremely often with NFL players.

I'm a little more forgiving when it's 100 on a 70 or something, but 80 in a 40 is absolutely ridiculous and you should have your license revoked in its entirety. If it's 40, it's more than likely some sort of city street.

How much do you have to go over the speed limit to get your license revoked? 80 in a 40 is very reckless.

You might be safer driving while drunk.

There isn't a road in this country that it is legal to do 80 on any more. Certainly not in a 40 MPH zone. :shake:

Not saying it's not careless, but if that's the stretch of road, it's fairly open with a large median and few intersections... I've driven on roads like that with a 55mph speed limit.

Per www.motorauthority.com, Utah and Texas have some roads with posted speed limits of 80 MPH, and Montana has areas with no speed limits posted at all.
