Great question asked on Arrowhead Pride:

This is the 3rd year of Haley's 4-yr contract. Barring the unforseen, Haley will be going into 2012 without a contract extension and be in the final year of his 4-yr contract. Guaranteed he won't be on a death march ala Jon Fox and the 2010 Panthers, but, what do you want to see Haley achieve in 2011 in order to be rewarded with a contract extension beyond 2012? I think barring a 1-15 season Haley will be back in 2012 as Clark doesn't wan't to pay another coach $4million to sit at home ala Herm in 2009, but what do you think Clark should look for to open up his checkbook for Haley?
So let's put that on the floor for discussion here.

What needs to happen in 2011 for you to be willing to extend Todd Haley?

What would have to happen to cause you to forego the fourth year and fire his ass?

IN!

Anything less than 7-9 and i'll be pissed

Actually even at 7-9 i'd be pretty upset, but that would be me giving up on Haley

SB or GTFO!

He needs to go into the stands at half time & feel up and old broad on the first row

AFC west repeat champs. No matter if it's 7-9 or 12-4.

Win the division or history

signs of maturity and sanity
signs that coaching is a strength and not a liability during games
needs to be able to get along with other coaches
a polished product on the field(especially on offense)

Stop being a pussy/laz

If we make the playoffs this season I think it has to be a lock for extention, no?

To me, the moment that will make or break Haley is how he and Pioli handle the QB situation after this season. If Cassel sells them and they stick with him for whatever reason, their heads are on the line in 2012 if it failed IMO, well atleast Haley's would be.

If we struggle this year and they go else where at QB, that decision will be the one. Stanzi or a top pick at QB. That direction might buy Haley more time with a built in excuse for struggle with a young QB.

I don't think a record 7-9 or above merits firing.

Anything less than 9 wins, and he's coaching on a 1-year deal and you decide after 2012.

He wins a playoff game, extend him.

No way he gets fired in 2011.

So, if the Chiefs finish 11-5 and SD finishes 13-3, Haley should be fired?

This. Winning a playoff game shows progress and consistent progress should be rewarded. If we take a step back (as OTWP stated, less than 9 wins), you give him one more shot to make the playoffs and earn an extension.
