Update on my Cutlass that got keyed

Well things could have gone worse, but all in all I can't complain too much. State Farm did not total the car even though they paid me the max it was insured for. They gave me 3g's, and I have to pay the difference of the paint job which is going to hit me like a Mike Tyson upper cut to the groin. I really don't have a choice, I am not getting rid of that car ever, and it will be worth seeing her in her former glory. It sucks to have to spend a lot of money on something you didn't want or need, but I digress, so is life.

Post some pictures when you get it done, good luck with it.

Is it a low low ?

My wife's car got keyed several years ago. We had it repainted, and it still looks pretty nice.

you know you could go to a tech school auto class and let them do it and get it done for free. then use the 3 g to enjoy life.

Awesome.

A bunch of dumbass kids painting his pride and joy. I'm sure he'll love that idea.

Sounds like State Farm did right by you. 3G won't cover your body work and paint?

Chiefaholic 07-20-2012 01:01 PM

If you do most of the prep work yourself, then that should easily cover the cost.

A new grad F'd up my favorite vehicle this spring and paint was falling off in 2 months.

Maybe skip this.

Shoulda' took it to the Automotive technology boys at the University of Southwest Cedar Rapids (Kirkwood). I'm sure your paint would have stayed on for a month of two longer.

Maaco was advertising a $259 paint job on the tv the other day

Maybe, but the fine print will tell you that they don't even wash the car first and then use farts to apply the paint to save money on compressed air electricity.

ROFL Might as well turn them loose with a bunch of Krylon rattle cans.

I wasn't aware that Earl Scheib was still in business, but their website gave me a good laugh.

http://www.earlscheibchicago.com/

Both Maaco and Earl Scheib heat their paint in an effort to get it to lay down last I knew.

Maybe repaint it a different color or scheme?? That way it does not get mi staked again..
