I had a Directv installer here yesterday. So, we were connecting the receivers and he says, "Who's from California? I saw that license plate in your driveway."

I say, "Oh, that's my sister's that lives in Oakland, CA."

Keeping the conversation rolling, I asked, "Have you ever been to the bay area?" FTR, the guy is Asian, with an accent. As I was asking this I had the slight thought(is this racist of me to ask???) I think because I almost asked if he WAS from Cali.

Anyways, in reply he says, "Oh yeah, I've been to Oakland. There's A LOT of black people there."

Are you white KChiefer? If you are then I know why he said what he said. It seems Asians believe they aren't grouped together with the blacks and hispanics in terms of minorities, so they think they're in the white category instead. You see it quite a bit among blacks and hispanics. They just get along better. In turn, whites and asians also get along better. That's just how it is.

There are a lot of black people in Oakland. It's not racist...it's true.

People are so careful these day to NOT be racist that they perceive the most innocuous things as being racist.

Talking about race does not equal racist. It is in fact the only way to overcome it.
