Surround Sound Help!

I bought a new tv, I have my surround sound hooked up. My surround sound works when I play a dvd through it. My TV and Xbox when hooked up the sound doesn't work. My tv shows the home theater is hooked up because when I use the tv remote it says home theater volume instead of my TV volume. I have my tv's digital audio output hooked into my receivers digital audio input. What can I do? Does this even make sense?

Is everything run through the receiver?

It's really hard to say without knowing the receiver and how you've connected it all. Lot of ways to do it wrong and still get some things to work.

tv is a panasonic tc-p50s60, the receiver is a sa-bt200. The receiver only has an hdmi output for the blue ray part. So, i need to hook everything else up through different ways to my receiver for the sound to work?

I run my PS3 digitial audio directly to my receiver and not through the TV. I've never tried it any other way. Do you have the necessary hookup (coax or optical) to do that? If so, I'd try it.

Ya, I actually just tried that and I get nothing still. This is getting really frustrating.

Ok, when I hook up the red/white plugs from my xbox to my receiver the sound works. I can't get the netflix from my tv to the receiver to work though.

Is your receiver set to output to all speakers? Many times, analog and digital inputs will have different settings within the receiver, even on the same input slot.

Take a picture of the back of your receiver. Then take a picture of the back of each of your components. Post them here and I should be able to walk you through it.

does that work, or do you want to see how I have it connected also?

'Hamas' Jenkins 06-01-2013 07:18 PM

Do you have cable or satellite?

TambaBerry 06-01-2013 07:21 PM

nothing right now, i am wanting netflix from my tv to work with surround sound and my xbox for games. If I have to use xbox for netflix thats fine just not as easy to use as the tv version.

Just so we're clear:

Your only components at this point are:

An Xbox 360
Your Blu-Ray HTIB
Your TV

yes

Easiest way to do it is as follows:

Connect an optical cable from the back of your XBox to Optical Digital In 2
Connect an HDMI cable from your BD HTIB to your TV.
