Doom turns 20 today
December 10, 1993.
The Beethoven of video games. The standard by which all FPS games were judged for more than a decade. And continue to be judged to this day. Makes you feel old, eh? |
Doom was such a cultural icon that my Jehovah's Witness pappy, who was one of the congregation's ministers, played it at work.

There's a guy right now who's streaming a playthrough of Doom, Doom 2, TNT Evilution, and Plutonia. A 24-hour stream. He's insane, too.
He finished Doom awhile ago. Now on Map 11 of Doom 2. http://www.twitch.tv/altimamantoid |
The book is awesome. It's basically the history of Id Software.
John Carmack is one of my personal heroes, and I live my life partially by his ethos. |
Man, I played the hell out of that game back when it was first released. So much fun.
|
John Carmack was in my Boy Scout troop briefly. Troop 102. He was a weird kid as I remember. Spent all of summer camp playing Dungeons and Dragons.
|
Castle Wolfenstein was better.

Damn....

And I thought it was shocking when Half Life turned 15 years old earlier this year. Might just have to fire up DosBox and play some Doom & Doom2 today.

486/33mhz FTW!
|
Is there a better sound than of a pump shotgun blasting away at a room full of Imps???

This was when a 4mb stick of RAM cost $90 and a 210 HDD was nearly $400 and was considered HUGE. LMAO |
