Just trying to post a new topic and it is fighting me.

dnvrCHIEFSfn 12-08-2000 09:59 AM

Fighting you or frightening you?

ColoradoChief 12-08-2000 10:25 AM

Dartgod - So how are the dart leagues going? In bowling set my high game at 255 2 weeks ago and this week broke it up to a 258, which is pretty cool. I think we play in the keeper playoffs this weekend, should be ugly.

One Arrowhead Dave 12-08-2000 11:14 AM

Morphius-

My dad [69 years old] shot his first 300 a week ago in league play.

Gaz - Damn, I was beginning to wonder if I was ever going to break 250, I'm sure I will choke if I ever get much closer to 300.

double spare double spare and struck out, both 9 pin spares were pretty good balls.

One Arrowhead Dave 12-08-2000 11:21 AM

Dude, he put all twelve smack in the pocket.

It was sweet.

Even better, he did it in the last game, so he did not have to live up to it that night. Just took his kudos and staggered out on shaky knees.

Got interupted for lunch... That must have been great to watch. I think the only time I really nailed the pocket on every throw I walked out with a 245, I don't get much in the way of lucky strikes, lots of solid 10's, 8's, 9's and the like.

One Arrowhead Dave 12-08-2000 01:26 PM

When it was his turn in the 10th, he asked me "how do you keep your knees from knocking?" I told him to sit down and chill for a bit, no one was going to rush him. Then he went up and threw the last three just like the first nine.

It was swell that I could be there.

My bane is the 10-pin. I shoot an out and back line, so if the ball hits square in the pocket it doesn't have a lot of drive left and that stinking 6-pin flies around the ten. AUGH!

ColoradoChief 12-08-2000 02:27 PM

Gaz - I had to buy a another ball just so I could pick up the 10 pin once in while. It has curssed me for years. The worst is when I watch the pin that might have tapped it out get stuck and bounce around in the gutter, unable to escape.

In fact this last week I had the 10 pin get hit and it just slid over to the 9 pin's spot.

One Arrowhead Dave 12-08-2000 02:29 PM

And to think we PAY them to let us endure this humiliation.

ColoradoChief 12-08-2000 02:37 PM

Gaz - So where does your average sit? I had not really bowled in a couple of years so I'm down about 8 pins from my previous average and am sitting at a 197 right now.

One Arrowhead Dave 12-08-2000 02:42 PM

I started out with a 217. Then the bastiges that run the lanes started oiling them side to side right up to the pin deck. The crankers are thrilled, but my ball has no finish whatsoever. I have been in a steady decline since then and am currently at 200, looking to continue my descent until the guy dressing the lanes has an unfortunate and fatal accident in the parking lot.

ColoradoChief 12-08-2000 02:44 PM

Gaz - The lanes I bowl at now break down quickly and are oiled different every week. I could go from a cross lane hook one week to almost a straight ball the next. Complete pain in the rump.

One Arrowhead Dave 12-08-2000 02:47 PM

There is so much oil on these lanes that I have to wait for the third game to get a decent finish on the ball. Until then, I am throwing a straight ball no matter how much lift I put on the ball and the 10-pins give me the finger all night long.

ColoradoChief 12-08-2000 02:54 PM

Gaz - This last week they were different then they had been all year, this time the would slide down the entire line and then break really late. It was pretty to watch. My problem is my ball is starting to show its age and I'm not even sure what I'm going to buy next.

dnvrCHIEFSfn 12-08-2000 03:03 PM

Hey Jeff! Not playing darts much now days. Going to school eats up alot of my free time and darts night usually lasts till after midnite. I did start bowling in league again this year. I'm pretty inconsistant. Last week was 190,158,233. The week before was 159,133,246. My avg is at 181 right now. My biggest problem is spare conversions. I'm horrible at it and rarely bowl a clean game. I'm starting to come around though. It's been 6 years since I bowled regularly in league.

BTW, I have bowled TWO 300's. :)

Damn space bar not working...

I bought a resin-reactive Track Triton Heat with my jar money [throw all change in to a jar and six months later you have a couple hundred dollars]. It kicked butt until they über-oiled the damned lanes. It slides a long way and has a great finish, but it can only do so much on these lanes.

We decided to move to another bowling house at the end of the season. There has been much weeping and wailing from the bowlers, but the owners just slough it off with "they are in accordance with ABC."

Dartgod-

The previous post was a knee-jerk reaction and may have come across as a bit peevish and harsh. I wish to apologize for any mental anguish you may have suffered and pass on my sincere congratulations. It is a mighty accomplishment once, not to mention twice.

Jeff - Looking forward to playing you. I was sweating it. Kloster had J.R. Redmond going on MNF and I figured he'd have a breakout game to make up the 13 point lead I had on him. I was relieved when I found out Redmond was inactive.

I would talk some smack to ya, but everytime I do that I lose. I prefer to keep it low profile, that way if I crash and burn I can slither away unnoticed.

One Arrowhead Dave 12-08-2000 03:10 PM

Dartgod-

We currently bowl in DooDah and are moving to the sole establishment in DooDah Lite.

Gaz - Apology accepted.

I forgot to mention I also have a 290 (ringing ten-pin in the 1st frame), a 289 and several 279's. Most of those were many moons ago though. Age is finally catching up to me. :)

*feeling a bit guilty for my good fortune*

ya gotta love this edit feature...

Dartgod - Your going to school instead of being pro bowler? Spares have been my hardest thing to get on track as well, I'm getting pretty solid at them again. Pretty much I have always had to pick up lots of spares and never gotten many strikes, too many solid single pins. 2 years ago I was subbing in a league and only did that once in a while, before that it had been 7 years since I was in a league full time.

dnvrCHIEFSfn 12-08-2000 03:47 PM

Yeah, I know. 279's, 290's, and 300's can win some pro tournaments, but those 130's can be downright embarrassing.

ColoradoChief 12-08-2000 04:30 PM

Dartgod - Even in my couple years as a sub I held around a 205, and never much bowled under 190. Of course the fact that I never much got over 225 is an entirely more painful issue.

dnvrCHIEFSfn 12-08-2000 04:50 PM

Sounds like you're a damn site more consistant than me. I never averaged over 197 in a full season.

dnvrCHIEFSfn 12-08-2000 08:19 PM

I'll bet Elvis has never bowled a 300 game; probably never will either...
