Michael Vick - Chiefs QB Coaching Intern
Mike Vick working as coaching intern with Chiefs
In June, Mike Vick said he wanted to one day coach in the NFL. Now one of his former coaches is providing him a baby step toward that goal. Vick is spending training camp as an intern with Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs. Vick spent four seasons with Reid and the Philadelphia Eagles, from 2009-2012, after the quarterback was released from prison following his role in running a dog-fighting ring. One of the most gifted athletes in NFL history, Vick said in June he believes he could bring a different perspective to coaching. "I think my heart is really into teaching, you know, the game of football," Vick told ESPN's Adam Schefter at the time. "I feel like I've learned so much from so many great coaches over the years. You know, I don't want to bottle up a lot of knowledge, and [I] really can't relay the messages that I want to relay to a high school kid because ... you don't have to dumb it down, but you can't be as complex. And I get that. "So [at the] collegiate level or professional level, you can express ideas. You can go into detail. You know you can coach hard, and that's what I want to do." |
Remember, this is the same guy who admitted to not bothering to learn the Jets playbook.
|
I hope he doesn't keep Patrick on a short leash leading him around the field.
|
I mean just another guy for Mahomes to learn from.
Can't hurt  |
Maybe he'll tell Mahomes to cut his hair.
|
What up dawg?
|
This will not go over well with the doggy community in KC.
Seriously.........what the hell are they thinking. Vick is a dumbass who couldn't read a defense worth a shit. Coaching? |

And, i am sure the doggie community won't even be fazed. |
The whole dog fighting culture is evil in my book. Don't care if he is a chiefs intern **** him.
|
It was given to him out of sympathy, really.
|
I think it's kind of cool and who gives a **** if a guy is trying make a life for himself?
He is an intern so it's not direct coaching until he learns how to coach. If people don't make this a big deal it's not. |

That's a really nice group of mentors that should bring a lot of different perspectives. |
|
I wonder about guys who were freaks that become coaches. Can they really coach a guy who doesn't have the same skill set? I envision Vick saying, "Run faster" or Favre saying, "Throw harder", or Barry Sanders saying, "Dodge that guy". That advice doesn't work for most people.

Meh, he's a coaching intern, which means he's there to learn how to coach from the other coaches. Reid has always praised him, so he must have done something right in Philly. And if a sucky QB like Mike Kafka can be a coach, I'm sure that Vick can coach, as long as he's actually willing to put in the work.
That's the thing I wonder with most successful guys who made millions in their career, do they have the drive to study film and work the long hours, or do they want to hop in, give a few pointers, then head off to relax or make millions as a talking head on TV? |
I actually love this hire. He has some unique insight on running around like a chicken with your head cut off in the pros, which is a big part of Mahomes' game.

Probably just there to fetch Andy's numerous snacks.
|
This goes on every year. Chiefs had 6 former players intern last year. No biggie.
|
You'd think Michael Vick would want to get as far away from Leavenworth as possible. St. Joe ain't that far away....

Ron Mexico all up in this joint!
|
I wonder if Ron Mexico was brought in to help Bray with his mobility?
Some are convinced he will hold onto that #2 spot all year. |
Cant be the worst training camp staffer that Andy's ever had. His son was shooting up in the dorms.

I don't want Vick around the guy who's hands I just put the future of the franchise in. First QB taken in the first round in 30 years, we gave two picks for him, he just got a ton of money and will have a lot of time on his hands because we won't be dressing him, and we hire Vick to coach him? This is stupid. I have been a big Reid supporter but this is flat out idiotic. Vick is a liability.

I dont care one way or the other. Unfortunately I dont think this has much to being a mentor, but more of Andy helping out a friend.

The Chiefs organization is an off season frekin train wreck-

Vick never learned, evolved to play from the pocket. He didn't run as much under Reid, but he never became a guy that could go through progressions. One read, check down or run was the game plan. I don't see how he helps Doc Mahomes. Quote:

And just because a player plays a certain way doesn't mean that's how they're going to coach. Otherwise the only coaches that really deserve to have jobs are Al Harris and Emmitt Thomas Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device |
Yall want to say this is a terrible hire, oh I don't want a dog beater. But no one cares how Tyreek Hill is doing after his season and he was a wife beater

I always was under the impression the offense with Pat would look much more like the days when Vick was running it opposed to how it is current day with Alex. Plenty more jet screens and playactions going deep. I'm here for it.
