Kurt Warner just went full reerun.

Just said on total access (obviously a replay) that if Matt Cassel plays well in his next two starts, he will be in his top 5 quarterbacks.

WOW

Well, if the Chiefs keep throwing downfield and his receivers keep making amazing catches, Cassel will be considered a franchise QB.

I'd trade Cassel to Total Access for Warner, straight up. I might even throw in a conditional pick.

Holy shit yeah. I'd take Boomer Esiason over Matt Cassel right now. At least then I wouldn't be worried about the Chiefs being married to him for another 5 years.

**** **** **** **** **** **** ****.

Ive said a few times (hopefully this isnt full reerun) that if Cassel does 3 things, he can be a franchise quarterback:

1) Throw the ball downfield accurately.

2) Go through your reads till all of them are covered and then utilize your mobility to make em pay

3) trust in his mechanics and coaching and follow through.

Thats really it...the rest of his flaws I can live with...those are the three things that absolutely kill this offense and the teams chances to win games.

His poise in the pocket, or lack thereof, is the single biggest problem he has, I think. Brady won Superbowls checking down like a maniac. He even does it now. Welker is the ultimate check down receiver. If Cassel had Brady's poise and release he would be nearly as good, IMO. Brady can throw a nice downfield pass, but it isn't what makes him great.

The Bad Guy 10-12-2011 10:09 PM

He plays 2 good quarters against the Colts and 2 good ones against the Vikings and he's even in the discussion?

Jesus.

Get ready for yet another season after this one of this bullshit.

The Bad Guy 10-12-2011 10:09 PM

Welker this year has been anything but a check down receiver.

I haven't watched a ton of Patriots games this year, but what I have seen of him looks like he is still catching those short dumps over the middle and stretching them. I could be off base though. I guess he's not a check down because from what I've seen he's become Brady's first read. Hell, Brady got so confortable checking down to him he's like, "Why do anything else?" I can't blame him.

He also played 2 good quarters against SD.

He shouldn't even be in discussion for top 10....MAYBE top 15 but I think even that is pushing it.

Cracks me up to hear anyone talk about Cassel developing anything other than arthritis. He's far beyond developing anything, this noodle armed idiot isn't exactly a young QB with upside.

Cornhole bags.... nice.

Kurt Warner is cousins with a few of my cousins. One of those related by marriage type of deals. We were born in the same hospital. Which is rare because I am from podunk Iowa where only 2 NFL players that I know of were born in that hospital.... he and Mitch King from the New Orleans Saints.

Little secret about Mitch for those who actually know who he is; he is a huge Miami Dolphins fan. I got to know him pretty well because my roomies in college were; 1.) his best friend growing up and 2.) his 2 current best friends. And speaking of cornhole bags, the last time I saw Mitch was at a cornhole bags tournament a couple months ago. It's funny watching that big dude play bags, but he is good at it (and pretty much everything else he does).

Anyways, although Kurt Warner has been one of those dudes that people in our area really pulled for when he was doin his thing, I do not agree with him regarding Cassel. Top 5 QB? Please. I have a difficult time thinking of 5 QBs that I'd rather the Chiefs not have than him.

Bewbies 10-12-2011 11:52 PM

Matt Cassel is absolutely a top 5 QB.

Not on the list of talented QB's, but the 1st 5 that need to be replaced.

Why should Cassel be on the list that affects the rep of Haley? Haley had nothing to do with bringing Cassel in.

I would be happy with 2 of 3.

#2 requires no shitting.

Hell, most NFL QB's would be good with those 3 things because they already made it to the NFL for some reason. No wonder I cant type on CP.

If my memory is correct, Haley was hired before the trade for Cassel. I would assume, in part, that Pioli and Haley discussed it before the deal was made. In any event, I stated it as the "era" and nothing more. Cassel was and still is a big fricken mistake.

talastan 10-13-2011 09:33 AM

I got a feeling this is how Kurt came to the conclusion of Cassel being top 5 material

NFL Studios:
(Phone rings)
Kurt: Kurt Warner, hello?
Haley (on phone): Hey Kurt, I need a favor. We're friends right?
Kurt: Ah sure, How you doing Todd; what can I do for you?
Haley: First of all Kurt, its Coach or Master, got IT!
Kurt: Right Coach, ahhh....okay?!
Haley: Listen when you do your QB analysis tonight I need you to throw our boy Cassel a bone okay.
Kurt: Ah Tod....I mean Coach, have you seen your QB play? The guy has the pocket poise of Pee Wee Herman. He might be between the 15th - 20th best QB in the league right now.
Haley: Listen you piece-of-lame-duck-****ty Quarterback-excuse for a Commentator. I own your a** and if you make the HOF you'll owe it to me GOT IT!!
Kurt: uhhh....uh.uh...uh..Right Master Haley!
Haley: One more time b****!
Kurt: RIGHT MASTER HALEY!!
Haley: Excellent. Cassel Top 5 QB tonight! Make it so!
Kurt: Yes sir Master Haley.

Phil Simms defended Cassel a few weeks ago when he was playing like crap.

I wish a local media persona would interview a former QB like Simms or Warner and get some details on their analysis.

I think that has as much to do with the talent surrounding him as anything he does himself.

When I think of Vick the first thing that always comes to mind is that game where we had eight rushing touchdowns against Atlanta and beat the dogshit (pun intended) out of them.

I remember that game too. It was so funny because before the game I was so ready for Vick to run all over our Greg Robinson dogshit defense. Since he had been doing that to other teams prior to that game. I was so happy when we dominated them. Still, Vick is extremely talented and I enjoy watching him. The guy is so fast obviously, but he has like spidey sense when it comes to feeling the rush. And wow what a cannon for an arm. It definitely isn't on him that the Eagles are losing right now. I've been watching their games quite a bit, and his 4 INTs last week were mostly not his fault. I don't know, I just find him exciting to watch.

Everyone is taking his list way out of contest. It isn't who Warner thinks is top 5 overall. It's just for THAT WEEK. I mean, Alex Smith is in there for god's sake. I know he's improved, but no way in hell is he #4 overall.

Remember the rumors of us getting Alex Smith during the off-season? Kinda wish that had worked out. I mean...I'd take him over Cassel for this season.
