Facebook's Graph Search is Bad Ass.

https://www.facebook.com/about/graphsearch

I've been playing with this the last 3-4 hours or so and it is literally amazing. This is a brilliant move. Tapping into the social graph so fluently in real time is a testament to big data and how quickly we can process shit.

I've also been using a tool called http://sysomos.com that is a $100,000 social media analytics platform... big data is sexy. There is so much you can do with it.

Some of these searches are silly, but a lot are actually useful. With time, Facebook plans to index posts and links we share, as well as events and activity from apps like Instagram into Graph Search to make it even better. There’s still a lot it can’t do, and plenty of phrases it doesn’t understand, but for version 1 of an attempt at a natural language search engine, Facebook didn’t do too badly.

What’s the craziest or most useful Graph Search you can think of? Post it in the comments and we’ll add the best ones.

Gochiefs is doing a search on it as we speak.

teedubya 01-16-2013 01:34 AM

It's not available to the public yet... still in beta. I got in on it from a friend who works at FB. This is a game changer.

teedubya 01-16-2013 01:43 AM

These searches are crazy. People are gonna get in trouble now. It's an adultery machine. LMAO.

I have really hot friends, btw. holy shit. This FB feature is gonna create so much creepin' and cyber stalking. It's not going to be funny. Oh decisions! Which to stalk first!

The one of the lower left is so hot. It's a shame she has tit tats... and a big tat on her wrist and hand... she was nearly perfect until she got that ink.

Need pics of said tats to verify.

AussieChiefsFan 01-16-2013 05:22 AM

Looks awesome. When will it be released for the public?

You have 2, maybe 3 hot friends.

Facebook is to Bad Ass, as Bieber is to testosterone.

That is all.

They are going to release it slowly, to build buzz and anticipation... instead of flipping the switch for everyone and pissing off the masses again.

Deberg_1990 01-16-2013 09:54 AM

This sounds like a predators dream tool.

Yeah, it will allow a lot of creepers too much data. So, it's more of an education play... if you keep your shit private... no one can see your stuff aside from your friends... which is a wise approach.

But, this will be a boon for SMB businesses as more people start using this instead of or in conjunction with Google Local or Yelp type apps. Local Search opportunities here for small businesses.

Star Wars is literally the least nerdy thing in the world at this point. It's one of the most successful, mainstream ****ing franchises in history. Thinking somebody is a nerd because they like Star Wars on Facebook is like thinking somebody is smart for liking books.

Also, Star Wars sucks.

BigMeatballDave 01-16-2013 04:41 PM

'Facebook' and 'Bad ass' should never be used in the same sentence.

Setsuna 01-16-2013 07:15 PM

It's only for friends so it works out perfectly. If they make it for friends of friends then people will be suing, and for good reason.

Fair enough. Everyone seems to completely lose their shit anytime something is changed.

Fail. I know which ones of my female facebook friends are single.. they're all single for a reason. Or demonstrably not into me.

duncan_idaho 01-17-2013 02:03 PM

Do people really want this functionality from Facebook?

I'm a social media fuddy-duddy, even though I was one of the first 15 students at Mizzou to have it. And I will admit this to anyone... but...

I guess I just don't get people that make Facebook the center of their internet lives. I check it for status updates (entertainment and hilarity), to see pictures, send message and occasionally check in on an event a friend has invited me to.

I get that Facebook is trying to expand its reach and keep growing its business, but I'm curious: How many people really want this type of functionality?

I have it now and it's novel but I don't see it as a game changer in its current form. And they really need to get their shit together on mobile... they could be killing it if they knew what they were doing.

Rain Man 01-19-2013 12:09 AM

Can people actually use this? If I go to the page I just get a "click this to get on the waiting list" option.

yeah, I may have gotten in early because I'm a developer with them but it may just be a quick wait list.

Ah, okay.

If this works as advertised, it's going to be pretty darn cool.

Iowanian 01-19-2013 07:23 PM

I know one of your friends in the pic in post 4.

DaFace 04-24-2013 10:17 PM

Just had this activated on my account. It's actually kind of neat. If nothing else, it's a dramatic improvement over the old search.
