Texas County Official calls Term 'Black Hole' racist

DALLAS — What do "black hole," "angel food cake," and "devil's food cake" have in common?

They're all racist terms, says a Dallas County, Texas, official.

A county commissioners' meeting this week over traffic tickets turned into a tense discussion over race when one commissioner said the county's collections office was like a certain astronomical phenomenon.

"It sounds like Central Collections has become a black hole," Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said during the Monday meeting.

One black official demanded an apology, and Commissioner John Wiley Price, who also is black, said that type of language is unacceptable.

At the meeting, Mayfield said he intended his comments to be taken in the context of the scientific meaning, and became upset that he was being misunderstood.

In astronomy, the term black hole refers to a star that has collapsed upon itself, creating something so dense and small that it does not have any physical properties besides a gravitational force so great that even light cannot escape its pull.

Later, Price told MyFOXdfw.com that he believed it and other terms were racist.

"So if it's 'angel food cake,' it's white. If it's 'devil's food cake,' it's black. If you're the 'black sheep of the family,' then you gotta be bad, you know. 'White sheep,' you're okay. You know?" Price said.

Price said people should watch their words when it comes to stereotypes.

"I think people should always be careful. You know, I'm okay if I'm 'bartering' with you. ... But if I try to 'Jew you down,' Oooooh. Is that racist? I thought it meant the same thing? No, maybe it doesn't."

The world-renowned physicist Stephen Hawking might have a solution to the problem over perception of the astronomical term. He refers to the phenomenon as "a singularity."

We've done this to ourselves. When you coddle a child throwing a temper tantrum, they become adults that throw temper tantrums. Black, white, brown, red, yellow, whatever. We've brought this shit on ourselves. Now, I originally typed white first, but figured that would be racist. However, when I changed it to black first it still sounds racist because after all, I am talking about temper tantrums and only a racist would type black first when talking about temper tantrums. However, if I typed white first then I must be a racist for putting white ahead of black. Are you picking up what I'm laying down? I know you are..........

That's a black mark for DeBerg.

Anything to make a name for yourself. Those comments were in no way, shape, or form racially motivated. The only thing gained from this is media coverage for the little attention whore. The next time he runs for office, people will recognize his name on the ticket. Hopefully this time people will wise up and vote for somebody who's primary goals are to improve the community, rather than disgrace his city and race with rediculous accusations.

The CNN series "Black in America"

had staggering statistics on the black race in America. I mean they were totally exposed.

These statistics compared to the other races on crime, single mothers, drug usage, prison ratio, education, drop out rate...just on and on.

It was basically telling African Americans what they are doing to themselves, hear that wutamuss? With black Americans on the program saying that the black community needs to change. Things will not change unless we change they said.

I 100 percent agree with that statement.

I could be wrong, but everything I've ever heard from Roger agrees with that assessment, that some members of the black community are doing it to themselves. He's all for personal responsibility.
