**** yeah.
That's it. Next time I'm at my parents' house I'm bringing back all of my C&H books. Hope I can get my 4 year old daughter into them. |
This should be fun.

Best comic strips ever:
Calvin and Hobbes Bloom County |
Can't wait. I grew up on these like so many others. I think it bonds a lot of people together and in this day and age we sort of need it. I hope your daughter falls in love with the comics too, it's something great to pass down..beats having kids wanting cellphones and all that at the age of 5...

What are yall like 90? Never heard of these comics.

When they ceased, I stopped reading the funny pages. |

EDIT: Can't say I do. I'm sure they're buried in mom's house somewhere. |

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Baby Lee again.
http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/739/hvz4.jpg this single panel sums up why I think C+H is the the best serial comic strip ever. |
Calvin's dad was my favorite character.
Calvin would ask those complex questions and he'd just make up some bullshit story... awesome. |
I forgot how incredible Calvin and Hobbes was - just a great strip.
1) The Far Side 2) Calvin and Hobbes ... ... Man, those 2 are just so far beyond everything else that a 3rd is hard to come up with. I really liked Non Sequitur, but it's kindof a poor man's Far Side. Peanuts just wasn't my speed, but was undeniably great. I reluctantly concede that I was a fan of FoxTrot. One that just came out right around the time I stopped reading them was Get Fuzzy. That one was pretty damn funny. |
Peanuts was outstanding.
One of my favorite 4 panels is CB and Linus sitting silently on a curb. CB is obviously distraught in the first three panels. In the fourth he shouts! "Oh Why couldn't Willie McCovey have hit that ball just three feet higher"!!? A reference to the 62 series when, in the 9th inning of game 7, McCovey hit a scorching line drive right at Bobby Richardson at 2nd base with Matty Alou and Willie Mays on 2nd and 3rd to end the World Series. I know how that feels. |
I can't believe I missed this thread! This. Is. AWESOME!
|
The snowmen are just amazing. I wish I could the images posted by Hawk. :(
I must have started reading those when I was 6 or 7 years old and read through each book multiple times throughout the years. I still have all of the original books, but after years of being read and sitting in the bathroom they really did deteriorate. |

I do like Zits now but that's probably because both of my sons are teenagers now and the strip tends to ring true. By the way, did anyone else, when reading Calvin and Hobbes, kind of get a pang of sadness when they would show Hobbes as just a stuffed tiger? |

An Interview with Bill Watterson

Thanks for the heads up. love Calvin and Hobbes. I believe I own just about every book.
|
C&H and The Far Side...
best strips ever. not even close. Calvin's snowmen strips were epic |
I just watched this documentary. It was really cool to hear all the perspectives from other artists. There was quite a bit of talk about the fact that Watterson refused to license his characters despite the fact that Hobbes was the most perfect character for licensing.

My 7 year old is now into Calvin and Hobbes. It makes great bedtime reading together.
