*** 2013 Prospects: Chiefs Visits / Met / Work Outs ***
Hey all. It's that time of year again.
2 years ago, this thread had a few guys that we selected in the draft. Last year this thread had 4 of our 8 draft picks. Obviously with a new front office and coaching staff, that trend might change. But things are going to be exciting with some new captains steering our ship coupled with having picks at the top of each round. Get pumped. I am going to try to embed comprehensive player profiles when they exist, courtesy of draftbreakdown.com. For some of the lesser-known guys, it may just be a random video or profile from their team website. Reminder as to how this works: When you guys see a solid lead on someone we are interested in, post it in here (links, please). Trying to keep this sucker legit. Chiefs speak with Colorado TE Nick Kasa after senior bowl practice.
|
Keenan Davis sucks ftr.
|
Quote:
He's a steady guy who suffered immensely because of 1) the expectations of being something he isn't (a #1 WR) and 2) the shortcomings at the QB position. |
According to Scott Wright, the Chiefs also talked to DT Sylvester Williams.

fwiw
Danny Parkins@DannyParkins EJ Manuel says he didn't meet Andy Reid, highlights his consistency as a winner, needs to improve his consistency/footwork. On the show now. -phew- |

I have no idea if Manuel is considered one of those top players. |

As for now he is not a candidate for this list, unless I'm missing that he met with someone from the organization. If he DID, great; upon confirmation I will add him. |

Vandenberg was terrible, called that early in his junior season. Not a surprise. Davis though, has been dropping passes since he arrived on campus. Having Davis as a 3rd option hurt Stanzi.
|
Quote:
But as a starter, he was just awful. He was more robotic than Jake Christensen, without the talent. |
Update?
|
I was hoping for a complete list of our combine interviews, though I've seen random names discussed. Haven't found and official full list yet. Anyone else?
|
|
**** it all. I want to kill myself now.
|
We met a lot more than that at the combine..
|
I just tweeted some people. See if any respond with a list.

9 QBs that we've talked to. We're drafting a QB somewhere.
|
Sweet, will update later today
|
KC was at Iowa States Pro Day, and we had few guys put up awesome numbers! Jake Knott will be visiting KC.
|
Would love to see Gooden get drafted. While undersized and not demonstrating an exuberant amount of pass rush technique/reps, I think he could be either A) a serviceable OLB or B) (what I really would like him as) a coverage ILB that can play all 3 downs.
Most immediately would say: "Why Sorter, don't you want to have a thumper as your Mike in a 3-4? Isn't Gooden the exact opposite?" Yes. However, with the way the NFL is played now, teams don't just run 1st and 2nd down and throw on third. You need quality ILBs who can drop into coverage in base, nickel, and dime fronts. IMO, you need those more than a quality thumper (who will likely play 1 down consistently ala Belcher). With more teams utilizing 3W and 2TE (who can run and catch) sets, it seems exceptionally prudent to ensure you have ILBs who can cover. The 49ers are a fantastic example of this, however even they have started to remove Willis occasionally against passing formations as he ages. You need two ILBs who can cover. You also need a reliable, aggressive nickel corner as well as a pass rushing 3 tech. These positions that were and are still commonly referred to as "sub package players" are going to be viewed as starters in the future. |
The 3-4 is no longer run out of a base defense. It is almost 60% 4-3 under and nickel variants. In short, I agree with Sorter on the matter. You need a linebacker who can drop into coverage and one who is athletic enough to be a safety.

IMO Kiko Alonso is the same type of LB. He's the guy I want most, but I'll take either. |

Not bad. Would probably prefer Bostic and a few others but he looks like he can contribute. |

Well, 2/2 so far.

Who else do we snag from this list?
